The role manages a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver customer requirements and is responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of sales and disposals campaigns within a team. The DESA has four key objectives for all of its sale activity: Maximise the receipts for the MOD, ensure that legal and environmental requirements are met, provide Defence Engagement opportunities and finally, provide opportunities for British industry. This vacancy Is specifically located in the Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) which is the sole authority for the sale and disposal of all defence materiel that can generate revenue (excluding infrastructure, land and nuclear). The DESA offers a range of supply options including Government-to-Government (G2G) sales or alternatively, sales through various commercial routes. DESA operates a number of bespoke commercial contracts in order to manage the high volume of disposal requirements, ranging from surplus inventory, to hazardous waste and scrap metal.

As one of our Sales & Disposals Delivery Leads, you will manage a small team, contributing to providing assurance and propriety of the Sales Process to achieve the Annual Target Forecast of Receipts for the Front Line Commands in the relevant Command Acquisition and Support Plan (CASP), from current Contracts & Government to Government Sales Agreements. You’ll ensure that the interests of all relevant UK MOD agencies are addressed through the appropriate decision-making groups including Defence Export policy. With regular engagement with appropriate UK Industry, you’ll support the team to maximise the potential opportunity for them to provide post-sales support to the Customer. Through the appropriate project teams, you will work with the leads to supply technical engineering advice and support to Commonwealth and foreign governments operating ex-UK military equipment and after-sales point of contact for spares support.

To be successful your CV must demonstrate the proficient working knowledge/experience of:

• Managing semi-complex projects to time, cost and performance, ideally in a Sales & Disposals environment
• Experience working with customers ensuring high quality delivery
• An ability to build relations with internal and external partners which are critical in securing the strategic objectives of the business
• Management of Contracts
• Flexible attitude and approach to work, with the ability to manage own workload
• Management skills and ability to improve your performance and that of a small team

The position is both challenging and exciting for those looking to learn and develop their skills within the business. You will be conscientious in your work with the ability to work independently and in a team environment with accurate and informative input. Strong communication skills (both written and oral) will prove successful combined with IT proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word & Excel).

Experience in the following is beneficial but not a necessity:

• Knowledge or experience of Defence equipment
• Sales and/or disposals experience
• Previous experience in either Government, Defence or large complex organisations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sales and equipment advice and support to potential customers in the UK and overseas to ensure deliver sales and disposals activity
    • Act as the SME and SPOC for designated materiel
    • Support sales and disposal campaigns (incl. the production of materiel factsheets for marketing purposes) utilising PPM processes and in accordance with the relevant policies and processes. Manage post-sale support activity, in accordance with policy.
    • Manage inward visits from customers, working closely with stakeholders and confirm all clearances and approvals are in place
    • Draft business cases for the sale of equipment, ensuring consistency with JSP101 and Business Case requirements
    • Coordinate with DE&S Project Teams and TLBs to understand and capture the materiel condition; manage ITAR or ASSC applications; and understand the capability of the equipment being sold
    • Manage significant disposal activities, liaising closely with the customer to understand their requirement and working alongside commercial to develop a disposal strategy
    • Manage DESA Commodity Sales & disposals Contracts in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to ensure delivery of an effective, compliant service for stakeholders.
    • Manage the Commodity Section, to provide a prompt and efficient disposal service provision on behalf of MOD and OGDs.

    What you will be assessed against

    To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essentialcriteria:

    • Managing semi-complex projects to time, cost and performance, ideally in a Sales & Disposals environment
    • Experience working with customers ensuring high quality delivery
    • An ability to build relations with internal and external partners which are critical in securing the strategic objectives of the business
    • Management skills and ability to improve your performance and that of a small team
    • Hold a full UK Driving License
