Corporate Services offers a challenging and stimulating variety of work in both delivery and support teams. The function utilises the expertise of eight specialisms that collectively enable the operational day-to-day running of the business to ensure that DE&S/SDA delivers its objectives and maintains compliance with the requirements of being part of a Department of State. We cover: Business Support; Comms, Media & Marketing; Infrastructure & Estate Management; Policy Profession; Sales & Disposals; Occupational Health, Safety & Environment; Quality Management; and Security.
As a Security Advisor you will play a key as part of the Principal Security Advisor’s Office (PSyA) within DE&S. PSyA provides a range of services across DE&S Delivery Teams and Establishments, other Government Departments, wider MOD and Defence Industry, including:
• Advising and influencing DE&S and Defence Industry, from management board to desk officer, to support security and business resilience
• Providing security assurance to Risk Owners, Delivery Teams and Establishments, that are consistent with policy and proportionate to risk
• Investigating security incidents and breaches throughout DE&S.
• Managing the security of material across DE&S and Defence Industry
The PSyA team consist of approximately 50 staff engaged in a number of roles including Protective Security, Personal Security, Assurance, Security Advice Centre, International Visits Control Office, Incident Management for Security Incidents and Business Resilience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities as a Security Advisor will include:
• Managing internal and external queries on various security issues by providing advice and assistance where required.
• Supporting colleagues in their specialist areas and actively contributing to team meetings to help with the work of the team.
• Maintaining awareness of current and emerging policies and their impact on existing security practices.
• Supporting the threat assessment and review process across the business.
• Supporting the Risk Management process, at the appropriate level.
• Providing timely advice and guidance on security matters, utilising arrangements in place for a timely, managed, controlled, co-ordinated and effective response to any security incident, threat or intelligence report.
• Liaising on matters of security with internal and external security stakeholders.
You may be required to provide assistance to operations, exercises and security surveys.

Please note that, due to the secure nature of the positions, one post is reserved for sole UK nationals only, which will require a Developed Vetting clearance (DV) once you have started in this post. In addition, regular travel may be required to other MOD sites.
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Excellent communicator both written and verbal.
• Able to determine priorities and deliver results at pace.
• Demonstration of being able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
• Experience of developing and learning new skills within a role.
• Hold a Level 3 Security Management Qualification or equivalent experience such as working in a security consultancy or industry.
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Experience in security constancy or security management.
• Experience working with legislation, policy or guidance in an advisory capacity.
• Knowledge of Project Management or Risk Management.
• The ability to interpret and analyse information.
