The Royal Navy’s Submarine Service has operated the UK’s Nuclear Deterrent every hour of every day for nearly 50 years, protecting our nation from the most extreme threats. The Submarine Delivery Agency (The SDA) are now recruiting for extraordinary people to help deliver the UK’s next generation of ballistic missile submarines – The Dreadnought Class.

Operation of the Nuclear Reactors at Vulcan ceased in 2015 after it was announced that there was no further requirement for future clinical testing. Vulcan will be entering decommissioning in 2022. The focus of work over the next couple of years will be the defuelling of reactors and site decommissioning afterwards. The SDA are looking for an Engineering Manager to join their Nuclear Decommissioning Team. You will work with a small on-site team and interact with the much greater MOD-Wide organisation, having involvement at all stages and levels of the decommissioning programme and a bespoke insight into the wider submarine service.
You will be responsible for day to day operations and ensuring contractual agreements are met. You will be required to ensure health, safety, security and assurance standards are met, as well as supporting the Decommissioning Project Manager and working on tendering, acceptance and engineering requirements. Assurance oversight on-site maintenance is also a large aspect to this role.

Responsibilities
- Managing the delivery of all engineering aspects as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects
• Producing expert advice and guidance in technical areas to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks
• Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service or system.
• Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks.
• Developing clear acceptance criteria for equipment / services and competently evaluating engineering and safety products against the criteria develo
• Determining stakeholder needs and translating them into comprehensive technical requirements
• Ensuring that requirements are formally captured, structured and that configuration control is establishedped
• Evaluating technical options in a way that considers the appropriate level of detail, wider impacts and available technology
• Selecting a justifiable decision-making approach that is appropriate to the nature of the decision being made
• Demonstrating engineering integrity in technical decision-making and can effectively communicate concerns to all stakeholders
• Ensuring relevant evidence and experiences are used to make timely decisions regarding operational risks and possible technical solutions
• Making well-informed technical trade-off decisions and advising others whilst demonstrating a full understanding of the capability consequences
• Using relevant processes, knowledge of specific regulatory requirements, tools and techniques to make technical decisionsWhat you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essentialcriteria:
• Hold a Degree in a relevant Engineering Subject or equivalent experience
• Be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or have demonstrable equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirablecriteria:
