Full-Time UI/UX Designer

Job Description

UI/UX Design at Pear Deck is about unpacking a teacher’s need in order to attain a deep empathy and ultimately deliver an elegant solution. Teachers face an enormous number of challenges every day, from creating a supportive learning environment, to meeting each and every student where they are each and every day all while staying up to date on the newest mandates and technologies.  We built Pear Deck to be a smooth, intuitive tool to help teachers gather and act on real-time student understanding in the simplest way possible.

As a UI/UX Designer at Pear Deck, you will be mocking up, testing, and implementing interface solutions with the rest of the product team. You will need the empathy to interview current customers and stakeholders, the humility to hear their frustrations, and the creativity to keep iterating.  With your expert designs, implementation, and collaboration you will be making our teachers’ lives easier while helping them engage every student every day.

Things you might do on a given day

  • Plan, conduct, and analyze user research interviews, usability tests, and surveys
  • Create low, mid, and high fidelity mock-ups for user testing
  • Collaborate with the team to turn user tested designs into polished UI 
  • Potentially writing HTML and CSS and conduct code reviews and commit production code via git/github (Not required)
  • Contribute to and maintain front end style guide
  • Lead Google Ventures-style design sprints and story elaboration sessions with representatives from all parts of the Pear Deck team
  • Work directly with developers to understand scope and technical limitations of projects
  • Work directly with sales, customer success, and marketing teams to understand customer pain points and requirements
  • Work directly with writers and marketers on feature launch specifics
  • Review customer feedback and requests to find user pain points in the app
  • Advocate for users and represent users in nearly every conversation when making decisions about the product

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience proven through
    • BS in Design or relevant field and/or relevant work experience as a UX Designer of SaaS applications
    • Portfolio of design projects
  • Strong working knowledge of Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision, and/or other relevant design and prototyping tools
  • Strong problem solving skills and independent self-direction
  • Aptitude for team collaboration and open communication
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating smooth user experiences and clean design sense
  • Availability during our typical working hours of 9am – 5pm EST
