Job Description

Who We Are

Arcadia is the technology company empowering energy innovators and consumers to fight the climate crisis. Our software and APIs are revolutionizing an industry held back by outdated systems and institutions by creating unprecedented access to the data and clean energy needed to make a decarbonized energy grid possible.

In 2014, Arcadia set out on its mission to break the fossil fuel monopoly and since then we have been knocking down the institutional barriers to unlock decarbonization.  To date, we have connected hundreds of thousands of consumers and small businesses with high-quality clean energy options. Fast forward to today, and now, we’re thinking even bigger.  We have launched Arc, an industry-defining SaaS platform that empowers developers and energy innovators to deliver their own custom, personalized energy experiences, accelerating the transformation of the industry from an analog energy system into a digitized information network.

Tackling one of the world’s biggest challenges requires out-of-the-box thinking & diverse perspectives. We’re building a team of individuals from different backgrounds, industries, & educational experiences. If you share our passion for ushering in the era of the clean electron, we look forward to learning what you would uniquely bring to Arcadia!

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a Product Designer to design foundational patterns, UI components, tools, and processes that enable designers and engineers at Arcadia to create consistent, high quality user experiences. This includes working on Shrike, the design system and component library that all of Arcadia’s products are built on — including Community Solar, the Arc Platform, and Internal Tools. You’ll work at the intersection of design and engineering, driving both decisions that directly impact the design and code quality of Arcadia’s products. You’ll collaborate with designers and product teams from across the company to design systems, components, and tools that raise the quality and consistency of Arcadia’s product experiences.

This role will report to a Sr. Manager, Product Design. Additionally, this candidate will collaborate frequently with other designers — as well as Product Managers, Engineers, Analysts/Data Scientists, Business Development Teams, Researchers, Marketers, Policymakers, and Energy SMEs.

Arcadia is headquartered in Washington, DC, and open to fully remote candidates.

  • Work side-by-side with product designers, engineers, and other stakeholders from around the company to develop the tools and processes they need to build world-class user experiences
  • Design in both low fidelity sketches and fully functioning prototypes, to clearly communicate your ideas to your direct team, stakeholders, and execs
  • Expand our design system, from building out our Figma components library to collaborating with engineering around design tokens and implementation to creating documentation guidelines”
  • Be a champion for usability and accessibility — all while upholding Arcadia’s high standards for design and product quality
  • Take pride in creating strong foundational systems and understand how to evolve them over time. You can recognize patterns across multiple product areas and predict future needs to design a vision for Shrike
  • Solicit, synthesize, and incorporate feedback from brand, design, and engineering partners

What will help you succeed:

  • 3–5 years of experience as a product designer, interaction designer, or ui/ux designer
  • A portfolio that demonstrates cutting edge digital work, unique approaches to problem solving and the ability to develop a well-considered and robust component library (or design system)
  • Expertise developing robust, usable, and sustainable Figma component libraries that work across a range of platforms and devices including web, iOS and Android
  • Systems thinking with a cohesive strategy toward implementing and maintaining design tokens, guidelines and principles, and component libraries
  • An excellent eye for visual design including color, layout, and typography
  • Have experience designing WCAG compliant, accessible interfaces
  • Obsessive attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Figma and/or Sketch required
  • Knowledge of prototyping tools (Principle, Framer, etc.)
  • Ability to successfully prioritize projects and focus on the things that matter most
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-productivity environment that includes addressing and acting on feedback
  • Degree in Human Factors, HCI, Design, Cognitive Science, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, similar field of study, or equivalent practical experience

Nice-to-haves:

  • Front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience working on design systems at scale
  • Past projects that showcase designing in ecosystems across multiple product lines, with a focus on usability and accessibility

Benefits:

  • Market-based compensation (salary + equity)
  • Healthcare, dental, vision, 401(k) and commuter benefits
  • Paid Time Off (holidays, vacation, professional development, volunteer, parental leave)
  • Professional development opportunities
