Full-Time Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Description

Summary:

Our Senior Electrical Engineer is an experienced, self-motivated individual that will support both new product development and maintain existing product lines. This person will support the team by acting as an Electrical Engineering lead on projects, predominately with an imaging subject-matter focus, and by providing technical leadership within the electrical engineering group. This position will be expected to work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines and organizations within the company, such as product development, manufacturing, and service. Ideally, the individual for this position should be a self-starter, work well in a team environment, and have an eagerness to tackle new challenges. ​

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Research and plan the electrical and electronic design for imaging and x-ray equipment  and systems, in accordance with product requirements as established from various sources including marketing, customer, and specification documents.  Develops detailed requirements for electronic systems.
  • Design and develop product subassemblies and assemblies including detailed electrical, electromechanical and firmware design and documentation. Hands-on electrical design, schematic capture, subassembly prototyping, debugging, and system integration are key components of the development activities.
  • Develop documentation for design requirements, unit testing, design specification, assembly specification and parts list management for PCAs.
  • Select, in conjunction with Purchasing and Regulatory Affairs and Quality, potentially suitable component suppliers for the company’s product.
  • Implements, tests, and documents electrical and electronic requirements for production. This includes supporting the transfer of relevant design output documents and recommended process instructions.
  • Provide work breakdowns and estimates of effort for personal project work, in conjunction with the Hardware Engineering Manager and Project Managers.
  • Support the Hardware Engineering Manager and Project Managers in establishing and updating project timetables.
  • Evaluate engineering technologies and tools.
  • May serve as the lead electrical engineer on projects, working with minimal supervision and coordinating the work of other engineers, technicians or contributors.
  • Support transfer of product design to production, which includes preparing, investigating, and executing change requests and change authorizations.
  • Conduct appropriate verification activities on all designs and design changes.
  • Support product development after design transfer through various enhancement and maintenance efforts.
  • Work effectively with other engineers, scientists, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Provide work direction to engineering technicians or assistants that assemble and test engineering prototypes.
  • Complete projects in a timely manner with proper documentation, develop hardware and software as specified with minimal errors, follow development process procedures and report promptly the progress, plans, and problems in a concise manner.
  • Contribute to the development or improvement of processes.

Qualifications:

a. Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics or engineering and 7-10 years of design and development experience in the medical device, electronics, or other relevant manufacturing industry.  Suitable work experience in a technically related field may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment, as well as some familiarity with shop machinery that may be utilized to fabricate prototype components.
  • Good computer skills, including the use of standard office software programs including spreadsheets, word-processing, and email applications.
  • Familiarity with the use of engineering tools such as version control and defect tracking systems.
  • Experience in project management or as a team member in managed projects is desirable.
  • Schematic capture experience.

b. Preferred or Desired:

  • Experience working with imaging and x-ray equipment  and systems.
  • An advanced technical degree.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills preferred.
  • Leadership experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the use of engineering tools such as version control and defect tracking systems is desirable.
  • Experience in the full life cycle for medical electronics projects is highly desirable, including product development, regulatory compliance and installed base support.
