The E.D. at Tufts Medical Center is a level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center, a stroke center and a tertiary referral hospital. Tufts Medical Center is the major teaching hospital of Tufts Medical School and is also a training site for emergency medicine for the physician assistant students of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. The patients seen in our E.D. include all acuities and ages of patients. The physician assistants in our ED evaluate and treat acute medical and surgical patients including the ordering of diagnostic studies, consultations, performing procedures and develop plans of treatment/disposition under the direct supervision of the attending emergency physician.
The E.D. physician assistant will be expected to keep up to date with current emergency department medical care and work closely with the emergency physicians, nurses, consultants, residents, students, social workers, family and other staff in order to facilitate patient care.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients of all different age groups and to provide care appropriately.
Certification by the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Interpersonal skills needed for interacting effectively with physicians, staff, patients and their families.
Analytical skills needed for evaluating patients, coordinating treatment plans and so forth.
Bilingual skills preferred.
Successful completion of a Physician’s Assistant program lasting 22 to 24 months beyond a Bachelor’s Degree.
One or more years of Physician Assistant experience in Emergency medicine or comparable field.
Requires Massachusetts Physician’s Assistant Licensure.
