Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join DE&S and to work within the Engineering Pillar of the Service Delivery Team, supporting the RAF fleet of 22 A400M Atlas transport aircraft.

Atlas, a four-engine turboprop aircraft, can deliver 25 tonnes of cargo over 2,000 nautical miles at impressive speed. It is capable of using short and unprepared runways – in 2017 beach landing trials were successfully completed on the South Wales coast. DE&S teams are managing the ongoing delivery of the aircraft and overseeing trials to increase the range of operations it is qualified to perform.

Based at RAF Brize Norton, the role involves management of Multi Nation support contracts, operational management and development of in life support projects to enable success on global Operations.

The key aspects of the job are daily interaction with Industry, Multinational Organisations and RAF Squadrons, providing expert engineering advice to the wider Delivery Team and ensuring service delivery to Front-Line Command customers, via an integrated and co-ordinated cross-functional effort through life.

Responsibilities

You will need to be highly proactive with a continuous improvement mind-set. You will encourage a culture of imaginative thinking, learning from experience and expanding mind-sets to challenge the status quo to continually drive for improved quality.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to –

• Manage the liaison with and connect to stakeholders including customers, suppliers and internal teams on specific issues and implement solutions that maximise platform availability for minimum through-life cost, through collaboration with technical and engineering colleagues to meet the requirements agreed in the Command Acquisition Support Plan (CASP).
• Coordinate the drafting, tender process and assessment of tenders, and monitor the performance of suppliers in terms of the quality, timeliness and reliability of goods and/or services to ensure agreed contractual obligations are met.
• Coordinate the implementation of change to requirements in response to cost and time pressures to ensure delivery to the customer meets expectations.
• Manage investigations where the required KPIs are not being achieved to the required quality, standard or timescales, and help to identify the issues and take appropriate action.
• Manage resources, monitoring actual spend and updating forecasts accordingly to ensure the integrated support meets customer requirements fully within the agreed budget.
• Manage agreed governance arrangements for the delivery of the service, aligned with iLog best practice and KPI’s.
• Responsible for providing engineering input into all aspects of inventory and supply chain management for their platforms or equipment.
• Proactively balance supply and demand with Front Line Commands to design and deliver a stable deliverable programme of work as part of the CASP.
• Contribute to developing optimal courses of action, balancing risk and value for money in the development of Business Cases and Investment Appraisals, Review Notes and Information Notes including economic analysis of investment proposals to influence decision making.
• Conduct regular rolling reviews of the teams, customer outcomes and platform capability performances to proactively identify and manage dependencies between projects and their funding/resource requirements.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience working in a delivery environment at an operational level within one of the Operational Management or associated disciplines (Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Technical Through Life Support, Commercial or equivalent), within a large, complex organisation
• Professionally registered i.e. IEng or equivalent relevant working experience
• Strong communication, influencing and engagement skills with stakeholders at all levels, internal and external
• Experience in managing supplier performance and service delivery

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Experience of working in an aerospace environment
• Experience of working with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD)

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

• Making effective decisions
• Communicating and influencing

About your team

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
