Community Visitation Specialist – Nassau County Family Treatment Court

• Wage: $28-30 per hour
• Schedule: up to 24 Hours per week – Wednesdays 9-1, Thursdays 9-1. All other hours flexible based on clients’ schedules and may include afternoons, evenings and weekends.
• Location: 101 County Seat Drive in Mineola, NY

What drives the core purpose of this job: 

The Community Visitation Specialist provides supervised parent-child visitation services for families participating in the Nassau County Family Treatment Court (NCFTC). The position supports safe, structured, and developmentally appropriate family interactions in community-based settings while promoting recovery, family engagement, and reunification. The Community Visitation Specialist works closely with the Family Treatment Court team and attends weekly court staffing meetings to receive referrals, review case progress, and coordinate visitation services. The position is responsible for monitoring visits, documenting observations, maintaining participant safety, and supporting families as they progress toward increased family contact and permanency.

What are the key responsibilities:

1. Attend Nassau County Family Treatment Court staffing meetings to receive case assignments, review referrals, and coordinate visitation plans.
2. Facilitate and supervise parent-child visitation in community-based, child-friendly, and neutral settings including parks, libraries, recreational facilities, restaurants, and other approved locations.
3. If needed transport families to and from visits using personal vehicle.
4. Monitor parent-child interactions during visits and ensure compliance with Family Court orders, safety plans, and program requirements.
5. Promote safe and positive parent-child engagement through observation, encouragement, and appropriate redirection when necessary.
6. Maintain professional boundaries and neutrality throughout all visitation sessions.
7. Document visitation sessions accurately and timely, including attendance, observations, participant engagement, concerns, and recommendations.
8. Communicate significant observations, safety concerns, missed visits, and other relevant information to supervisory staff and the multidisciplinary treatment court team.
9. Coordinate visitation schedules with parents, caregivers, treatment providers, and court personnel as required.
10. Assist with approved transportation coordination and support activities when transportation barriers may interfere with court, treatment, parenting services, or visitation participation.
11. Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, supervision, and required trainings.
12. Utilize trauma-informed, family-centered, and culturally responsive practices when working with families.
13. Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive participant information in accordance with agency policy, court requirements, and applicable regulations.
14. Testify in court when subpoenaed or otherwise required.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:

1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, Education, or a related field required.
2. Experience working with children, families, human services programs, child welfare, court-involved populations, behavioral health, or related fields preferred.
3. Ability to observe and objectively document parent-child interactions.
4. Ability to lift, carry, and secure children into appropriate child restraint car seat.
5. Ability to work independently in community settings while maintaining communication with supervisory staff.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, electronic documentation systems, and other technology required to perform job responsibilities.
7. Strong organizational and time management skills.
8. Valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
9. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
