Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director of People & Culture is the guardian and champion of ASLA’s culture and will be responsible for and lead all aspects of human resources for ASLA including developing strategies to ensure that HR initiatives and programs such as recruitment, onboarding, team-building and recognition, professional development, performance management, and employee benefits — along with other company initiatives that echo and embed the company’s culture, values, and purpose into our daily operations.The Director will also draft policies and develop metrics that track employee engagement and productivity.
HR Strategy Management: Develop ASLA’s HR strategy, including its talent and performance management program, designing training content focused on successful performance management principles, goal-setting and accountability, advising supervisors in coaching staff and providing effective feedback; and focus on addressing and resolving performance and/or behavior issues fairly, consistently and expeditiously. Regularly track and report HR data and metrics to help devise programs and policies in support of ASLA goals and design a robust and thorough onboarding program to engrain new employees into ASLA’s culture.
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding: Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, creating strategies to ensure that ASLA has the breadth of talent necessary to achieve its growth plans by implementing effective recruiting strategies and processes that are consistent, streamlined, and targeted toward attracting a competitive, diverse talent pool; educate teams on recruitment and inclusion strategies; support the effective vetting of candidates, including an assessment of cultural fit.Change Role Agent: Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver; develops a rapport with team members to ensure open and respectful communication within ASLA and promotes an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, value and positive attitude throughout the organization.
Learning and Development: Champion staff professional development including internal and external training; identify and recommend areas for staff development; serve as a resource for supervisors and employees on establishing professional development goals; and stay on top of best practice and innovative approaches to learning
Policy and Compliance: Develop and implement policies and programs, communicate and educate staff on policies and procedures; and ensure employee handbook is kept up to date; implement change management plans into all initiatives that will impact employees.
Total Rewards Management: Serve as principal administrator over all benefits (health and welfare, retirement, leaves of absence, etc.); develop strategies to ensure ASLA offers a competitive benefits program that meets the needs of employees while maintaining affordability; and oversee benefit-related broker and vendor relationships.
Performance Management: Direct the compensation program, ensuring fair and equitable salary administration; maintain oversight of salary ranges; enforce ASLA’s processes for annual salary review and maintain consistent approach to merit/promotional adjustments
Team Management: Oversee and coordinate the daily administration of offices services, telecommunications and building maintenance. Assist department directors on operational issues, ensuring smooth delivery of services. Supervise property management and building security staff at the Center. Work directly with property manager, real estate broker and other trusted partners on the management of the property.
- Demonstrated senior human resource leadership (10+ plus years’ experience, at least three to five years as a leader).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in applicable field required; advanced degree preferred; Current HR certification, e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP preferred; a specialized certification (e.g., CBP, CCP, CEBS, GPHR, etc.) a plus.
- Demonstrated experience as advisor across every level in an organization, including executive and senior leadership teams.
- Demonstrated leadership of a talent agenda that contributed to a culture of creativity, entrepreneurship and excellence.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, collaboration, project management, problem-solving, change management and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic HR program development; business planning & operational management.
- Prior not-for-profit management experience preferred.
The ideal candidate will be an inspirational leader who is approachable, relatable and an experienced Human Resources and Administrative leader with solid career progression across multiple HR roles. Experience with leading transformational change and building an engaged, diverse and inclusive culture, organizational design, workforce planning, employee relations and training. A strategic and tactical leader who will” roll up their sleeves” and drive positive results.
