Job Description
Job hours will be 7:00 to 17:00 with every other weekend off and no split shifts.
Based in Frome, as Head Chef, you will lead a busy kitchen preparing homely, high-quality food in an efficient, hygienic and creative manner. You will be supported by a Cook and Kitchen Assistants, as well as our Group Catering Chef, who will work with you on seasonal menus, new ideas and the wider development of the home’s food offering.
We are looking for someone with a motivational and inspiring leadership style who can bring out the best in their kitchen team. Strong relationship-building skills are equally important, as you will spend time getting to know and connecting with the people who live in our home, whom we fondly refer to as family members.
Just some of the day to day responsibilities will include:
Prepare and cook a variety of fresh nutritious meals and other refreshments, ensuing a nutritional and balanced diet
Creating menus which has a choice of a vegetarian and/or meat dish
Ensure the food is presented to a high creative standard
To lead and mentor the catering team
Ensuring high levels of hygiene, health and safety and cleanliness throughout the kitchen and food store areas
To make sure that all food at point of serving is of the highest quality
To be involved in the design, budget and cost control of all food menus
To constantly check the quality of the food being served to family members
To control stock rotation to ensure the kitchen and food stores are always well stocked
Prepare a range of delicious soft meals, putting the joy back into food, designed for those with swallowing difficulties

Support of Group Catering Lead
Experience:
- Food and Hygiene Level 2
- Preferred minimum 3 years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen
- Experience in leading and motivating a team
- Stock control and budgeting experience
- Previous care home experience an advantage but not essential
