NOVA Chemicals is seeking a SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) Specialist to join their Engineering Information Management (EIM) team.
The SPI Specialist role is the primary contact in NOVA Chemicals for project set up, maintenance and support of the SPI system. The SPI specialist will maintain all current SPI systems for each manufacturing location and ensure the environment works appropriately regarding the generation, control, and management of SPI databases.
The role is primarily involved with SPI but knowledge of, and experience in the use of other SmartPlant applications would be beneficial. Please ensure that resumes clearly indicate the specific application and the level of knowledge in the use of the tool. Experience with SmartPlant tools integration is a benefit.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
- Act as SPI Subject Matter Expert
- Import data into SPI using data sources, from text files, excel files MS Access files etc.
- Export data from SPI database.
- Standardize existing SPI datasheets and symbology for all NOVA sites.
- Create customized reports using SQL scripts for Wiring, Instrument Index, Installation lists, Cable Schedules, Cable Cutting list etc. etc.
- Manage and audit SPI databases
- Develop, maintain, and deliver end-user training to existing and new users
- Maximize effectiveness by ensuring all available features on the running version are being fully exploited by end users
- Maximize effectiveness by ensuring all available features of SPI on the running version are being fully exploited by end users
- Configure, maintain, document, and control the local SPI template
- Create and manage Domains and projects in SPI
- Provide corporate support associated with upgrades and hotfixes to SPI software
- Manage escalation and resolution of database issues, engaging software vendor as required
- Manage user accounts and access rights
- Maintain SPI Standards documentation
What We Are Looking For:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 8+ years SmartPlant Instrumentation/INtools Experience in an Administrator role or an Engineering Technologist diploma with a minimum of 10+ years of related experience. Experience in the Petrochemical industry is an asset.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- In depth knowledge of SPI including configuration knowledge and skills
- Working knowledge of SmartPlant suite of products (e.g., SPI SmartPlant Foundation (SPF), SDx Operations, Smart Electrical (SPEL), etc.)
- Sound Instrumentation & Control (I&C) knowledge
- Experience with DCS/ESD/PLC wiring and layout, instrument loop diagrams
- Working knowledge and experience with SPI integration with SmartPlant Suite
- Knowledge of Engineering processes and workflow in an owner/operator environment.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Proficiency with computer programs (Microsoft suite)
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in database setup and dataset management.
