Full-Time Software Interaction Designer

Job Description

As a Software Interaction Designer, you will lead the interface idea generation, design, prototyping and work with project staff throughout the development and testing phases to complete projects. You will play a critical role in the team by helping drive the product vision. You will participate in user research and observe usability tests. You will use your visual and interaction problem-solving abilities to develop creative responses to UX issues that arise during development and testing.

Developed and managed from our international HQ in the Netherlands, IDEXX Animana is an intuitive, cloud-based practice information management solution that offers key features designed to make practice management both simpler and more efficient, freeing up the clinic staff to attend to more patients and reduce less paperwork.

We are a fast-paced product team operating under a disciplined Software Development Life Cycle process.  We work hard towards good results – we deliver with collaborative team efforts and we work in harmony.

In this role:

  • You will be working closely with our end-users (veterinarians, nurses, receptionists, etc.) and one of your critical missions will be to identify through research areas where our product can provide better experiences to them.
  • You will lead the interface idea generation, designing, prototyping, and working with project staff throughout the development and testing phases to complete projects.
  • You will coordinate with product management, development, and quality assurance, to understand product requirements and identify solutions to user interface challenges.
  • You will develop creative responses to UX issues that arise during development and testing.
  • You will build prototypes and simulations of user interfaces.
  • You will create wireframes, flow diagrams, specifications, and other design-related documentation.
  • You will extend and maintain pattern libraries, and other standards resources, to document a common approach to Company user interface design. Builds interface design discipline as a component of the product development process.
  • You will be an advocate for user-centered design process and contribute to the overall user experience of products.
  • As a member of the Product Management team, reporting to the Head of Product Management, you will take part in daily stand-ups, demos & retrospectives.

What do you need to succeed:

  • You have excellent visual, analytical, and conceptual problem-solving abilities.
  • You have knowledge of user-centered design philosophy and processes, knowledge of software and product development methodologies, and a working knowledge of visual design software such as Visio and Photoshop; experience with Axure a plus.
  • One of your key personal traits is strong attention to detail.
  • You should have solid organizational skills to effectively work on multiple projects and the ability to work well in a multi-team cross-functional environment.
  • You should also have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and 3+ years’ experience is required for this role.
  • We also speak 16 languages across the team, but English is KEY, a good command of Dutch language skills would be a plus.
