We are seeking a Regional Public Affairs Specialist to join our Communications Team. Reporting to the Leader, Communications, the successful candidate will develop and implement communications strategies and tactics to support site and business objectives for our manufacturing facilities in Sarnia, Ontario.
In this highly visible and collaborative role, you will work closely with:
- Site leadership in the development of community outreach plans to support ongoing regional manufacturing operations critical to maintaining NOVA Chemicals’ license to operate
- Project Organization & Environment Team to develop and execute strategic consultation & outreach initiatives that support manufacturing growth projects and ongoing capital work, including turnarounds
- Internal Communications to drive regional employee engagement, with a focus on connecting to our front-line workers
- External Communications to protect and enhance NOVA Chemicals’ local brand & reputation
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
- Oversee the regional community investment portfolio and cultivating strong relationships with key community stakeholders.
- Align site-based employee communications tactics to broader organizational employee engagement strategy to drive greater connectivity of the company’s mission, purpose and business strategy at the local level.
- Support site leadership in the development of key messages and materials to drive regional employee engagement initiatives.
- Work with the broader Communications Team to ensure regional alignment to NOVA Chemicals’ content strategy.
- Build and maintain strong relationship with key regional stakeholder groups and community members.
- Support local media relations.
- Partner with site leadership and staff to develop and execute community outreach programs.
- In partnership with the Specialist, Corporate Giving and local leadership, develop a regional community investment portfolio and work with site staff to execute against the plan.
- Support regional emergency management initiatives, including acting as the local Public Information Officer.
- Support the execution of the regional public affairs playbook and equip leadership with plans and messaging to facilitate dialogue with external stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For:
- University graduate with 5-7 years related experience and continued professional development or 10+ years combination of post-secondary education and related experience and continued professional development.
- Ability to understand vision and strategy at the company and business level.
- Skilled at effectively responding to changing priorities and demands.
- Ability to develop and implement strategies, strong project management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize and break down barriers to collaboration and reach agreement or consensus on a course of action with others inside the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and work well with others in cross-functional groups.
- Skilled and comfortable communicating with individuals at all levels of the organization and representing NOVA Chemicals in the community.
- Strong oral and written communication skills including writing and editing.
- Knowledge of the Sarnia-Lambton communities and Ontario regulatory process.
- Experience with crisis communications.
