We are seeking Operations Technicians to join our Operations Team located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. All levels of experience and ticket level will be considered. As a member of a plant operations team, you will be supporting the manufacturing process to ensure the safe operation of our facility. These opportunities will allow you to gain valuable operating experience in our Olefins, Coproducts or Utilities operations, directly influencing the company’s performance.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Safely and reliably operate the process equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and safe work permitting.
  • Complete area safety checks and respond to hazards in own area.
  • Provide preventative maintenance of equipment (i.e.: rounds and checks, swing pumps).
  • Monitor, report, and initiate corrective actions for plant operation in responsible area.
  • Implement changes to operating parameters to optimize unit performance.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within the operating unit.
  • Continually progress through the outside operating areas culminating in the operation of a complex DCS panel.
  • Mentor and train other Operations Technicians in qualified areas.
  • Participate in team safety meetings, safety audits and follow-ups.
  • Participate in procedure reviews.
  • Support and participate with the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Power Engineering Technology Diploma preferred.
  • Minimum 4th Class ABSA Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency.
  • Minimum 3rd Class ABSA Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency is preferred for olefins operation.
  • Water/Wastewater Certification would be considered an asset for utilities operation.
  • Power engineering experience in an industrial plant setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply various acts, codes and regulations appropriate for the position.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, high level of personal motivation, and ability to adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and Responsible Care®.
  • Effective communication skills to cope with a wide variety of operational priorities and work activities.

Additional Information:

Cross border / international moves including immigration will not be considered for this role.

Position will require the successful candidate to:

  • Have and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidates must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator.
  • Work and follow the Joffre Operations Shift Schedule which includes a combination of 12-hour dayshifts and nightshifts.
