We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our Process Engineering Team located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. Reporting to a Process Engineering Team Leader, you will provide process engineering support in achieving Utilities, Olefins and/or Polyolefins business results. You will be part of a Multidisciplinary Teams and work with various disciplines (Technical, Operations, and Maintenance) to address unit priorities. You will work on key process engineering and process safety work that also develops competency and builds knowledge and networks within our Manufacturing environment.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
- Drive/facilitate actions to improve plant performance/initiatives in continuous improvement, relative competitive position and emerging environmental regulatory engineering support (CO2, NOx).
- Coordinate and execute Process Safety Management related initiatives including PSV management, out of service equipment/systems and over pressure protection by system design.
- Provide additional support to process engineering workload including but not limited to process engineering backlog, PHA backlog, process monitoring guidelines/tools.
- Determine root causes of problems via data analysis, troubleshooting and sound engineering principles.
- Participate in the identification, planning and execution of equipment outages and major turnarounds
- Participate in the capital and expense project definition, design and commissioning.
- Provide expertise and implement solutions to improve plant performance within a multi-disciplinary team in the areas of Responsible Care, cost, reliability, profitability and capacity.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team to resolve issues and implement solutions.
What We Are Looking For:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with 8+ years of related engineering experience in a manufacturing facility
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective leadership and interpersonal skills along with the ability to prioritize workload
- Demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care
- Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges and embrace change and new ideas
- Self-motivated, focused on results, with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others
- Demonstrated computer skills with experience in building trends, analyzing data and statistical analysis
- Comprehensive working understanding of PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances
- Experience with a variety of hazard/risk analysis techniques and specific expertise at leading HAZOP studies, SQRA’s, Five Whys or other risk assessment techniques
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multi-discipline teams (i.e., Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams)
- Plant support process engineering experience in Olefins/Polyethylene/Utilities
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite, Aspen Simulation Packages, Aspen Process Explorer, Spyro, iPrism and SAP would be beneficial
