Do you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems, and seeing the results of your work every day? The City of Greensboro is seeking two Maintenance Technician – Structural professionals to join our Building Maintenance Division.

In this entry-level skilled trades position, you’ll work alongside experienced Maintenance Mechanics to repair, renovate, and maintain City facilities including fire stations, recreation centers, the Municipal Management Operations Building (MMOB), and other municipal buildings. About the Role

As a Maintenance Technician – Structural, you’ll assist Maintenance Mechanics in performing repairs, renovations, preventative maintenance, and construction projects throughout City-owned facilities.

You’ll gain experience maintaining and repairing:

  • Roofs
  • Floors
  • Walls
  • Doors and windows
  • Ceiling tiles
  • Sheetrock
  • Metal stud walls
  • Chain-link fencing
  • Handrails
  • Concrete steps and ramps
  • Cabinets and countertops
  • Bathroom partitions
  • Carpet and flooring
  • Locks and hardware
  • Masonry and structural components

During your first several months, you’ll ride with experienced technicians, become familiar with City facilities, and learn maintenance procedures before progressing to independently performing repairs and operating a City service vehicle.

You’ll also:

  • Read blueprints and specifications
  • Use computers and electronic work order systems
  • Operate hand and power tools safely
  • Follow OSHA regulations and building codes
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

We’re looking for dependable individuals who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in quality craftsmanship.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Practical carpentry or construction experience
  • Experience using hand and power tools
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. with 1–3 years of carpentry construction experience (must be clearly reflected on application)
  • “OR” No High School Diploma with 5-7 years of carpentry construction experience (must be clearly reflected on application)
  • Experience using carpentry tools and equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with additional trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC)
  • Experience with computers, iPads, or general office equipment
