The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineer II to serve as our Assistant Survey Team Lead on our Location & Surveys team providing Statewide engineering and geomatics analysis in the development of transportation facilities/acquisition of property in accordance with the best professional engineering/surveying practices.
In this role, you will:
    • Apply your professional engineering expertise to complete moderately-complex projects.
    • Perform quality control/quality assurance.
    • Assist in scoping negotiation, estimating and evaluating of Route Surveys/Geomatic Projects.
    • Manage our Right of Way revisions process.
    • Oversee verification of final Right of Way sheets at project completion and certification of final Right of Way staking
    • Support our Division Team Lead by:
      • Managing projects
      • Supervising junior technical and professional staff
      • Consulting with senior staff, Central/Division-Managed Project Teams including Preconstruction and Construction.   
What You Bring
    • Civil engineering and Route Location Surveying experience including transportation and geomatics engineering rules, practices, standards, and principles relating to the different phases of highway design and the duties of the NCDOT Units, Branches, and Divisions.
    • Geomatics engineering experience including GPS, geodesy, hydrology, property law, construction stakeout, utilities, GIS, Terrestrial and Mobile LiDAR, Bathymetric Sonar Technology, photogrammetry, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and CADD.
    • Knowledge and understanding of other transportation engineering topics such as Highway Design and construction relating to roadway, hydrology, structures, utilities, rail, and environmental.
    • Experience independently evaluating and exercising decision-making judgments regarding preliminary and design mapping, construction and Right-of-Way plans, and legal documents.
    • Experience communicating technical information in writing and verbally in a clear and concise manner to different audiences.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
    • 3+ years experience; or
    •  An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners and Surveyors.
