Full-Time Assistant Resident Engineer – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Assist our Resident Engineer in the day-to-day contract administration of major and minor transportation projects.
- Supervise NCDOT staff and contractors and prepare/evaluate their performance.
- Train, coordinate, and supervise NCDOT staff.
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Gain a working knowledge of NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Keep records for monthly and final estimates.
- Work closely with contractors, utility companies, other government agencies, the public, and news media.
- Review and evaluate data collected by field staff.
- Prepare technical letters and reports.
- Review contract plans, specifications, and material testing results.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and administering highway construction plans and contracts.
- Experience directing, assisting, or training staff.
- Experience administering contracts.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
- Skills in the operation of survey equipment, computers, and drafting instruments.
- Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts and interpret construction plans, provisions, standards and specifications.
- Good communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties.
- Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
- You may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and climb on bridge substructures and superstructures.
- You will be working outside in all types of weather, terrain, and hours.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
