RUBENSTEIN is seeking a talented, motivated and dynamic Account Executive, Corporate & Financial Services to execute public relations and media relations strategies across a range of clients, including: hedge funds, private equity and asset management firms, financial institutions and corporate governance-related issues. A background in public relations in the financial services sector is required. Knowledge of the financial industry and the capital markets, with an understanding of a range of investment vehicles, is preferred. PLEASE NOTE: This position is currently remote, and will eventually be located out of our New York City office. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Take the lead on client projects with supervision; maintain daily client interaction to update, report, and discuss account activity and to manage expectations concerning media opportunities

Initiate the creative process of formulating pitch ideas and story angles; participate in brainstorming sessions to develop broader strategic initiatives for clients

Cultivate, establish and maintain working relationships with all levels of national, local and trade media, particularly across mainstream financial news outlets and trade media

Pitch to media and execute long-range communications strategies that raise the profile of the client and its executives, securing coverage with regional and national publications

Manage daily workflow of multiple accounts while driving consistent media results

Develop, edit and review press releases, pitches, recaps, clipbooks and other media materials and internal documents

Contend with and navigate highly confidential, sensitive information and issues on behalf of clients

Oversee research, media monitoring and analysis

Nimbly work well within a collaborative team account structure; ensure that managers are kept fully informed regarding activities and client plans

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Excellent, demonstrated writing and analytical skills, with the ability to craft press releases, media pitches, and strategic communications materials (AP Style knowledge a plus)

Conversant in current breaking news issues detailed in national publications, particularly in the business and financial sections

Ability to understand complex financial issues and reports and articulate these into subjects of interest for the media

Ability to forge relationships with media outlets on local and national level; proven record in delivering PR results across print, online and broadcast

Strong communications and presentation skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse group of people and audiences; agility and versatility to stretch across client sectors, and the ability to effectively present work to colleagues and clients at all levels

Understanding of the intersection between traditional and social media and how different outlets can serve different purposes

Demonstrated proficiency and affinity for social media / digital tools and platforms, and the eagerness to learn and stay current in the digital space

Ability to think critically, creatively and develop new and interesting ideas

Ability to manage time, multi-task and move quickly with efficiency and attention to detail while ensuring deadlines are met

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; focused on team success and collaboration

Familiarity with day-to-day tools such as PowerPoint, MuckRack, Cision, Meltwater, etc.

Bloomberg Terminal certification is a plus

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

3 – 5 years of client and media relations experience at a PR agency or on an in-house communications team preferred

Direct publicity experience in the financial services sector is required

Knowledge of the financial industry and the capital markets, with an understanding of a range of investment vehicles, is preferred

College degree preferred – focus in Communications, Journalism, English or a related field is ideal

Influence & Co. makes content marketing simple by providing a full-service solution to help companies strategize, create, publish, and distribute content that accomplishes their goals. We’re looking for a full-time publication strategist to join Influence & Co.’s media relations department and work with the team to secure guest-contributed article placements for our clients and grow our relationships with editors at online publications. We recognize that our industry and organization have a troubling lack of diversity. About the Publication Strategist Role As a publication strategist, you will build and nurture editor relationships in order to be seen as a trusted source, connecting our clients with editors to byline high-quality, exclusive articles. You’ll play an important role in ensuring our client content is headed in the right direction by providing editorial feedback, brainstorming content ideas, and developing publication strategies. Like many other companies, we have chosen to continue to work from home to ensure the safety and well-being of our team and plan to have our Columbia, Mo., office open for employees again on Aug. 30. Our entire recruitment and hiring process is fully virtual for the time being, and the onboarding and training process may be a combination of virtual and in person. In this role, you’ll collaborate with approximately seven account services teams and 40+ clients in addition to your fellow media relations team members. You are deadline-oriented. So what does the publication strategist role look like in real time? Let’s break down the first year. Please note: This is a rough timeline, as we know not everyone operates at the same pace. As long as we’re in communication, we will do our best to support your unique pace. At the 30-day mark, we expect publication strategists to have an understanding of Influence & Co.’s content strategy process and service lines, as well as content marketing as an industry. Don’t worry — you will receive plenty of training on all of these! Additionally, you will have a foundational understanding of the publications you have been assigned and how your role works. You may also start practicing pitching articles to editors and reviewing client content. At the 60-day mark, you will feel comfortable using our content creation platform, ICo. Core, as well as the other tech solutions involved in your job (Toggl, Slack, and Google Drive, to name a few). By this time, you’ll be getting more comfortable with reviewing content and sending articles to editors, as well as identifying industry trends and publication preferences with more ease. Of course, you will still be supported at this stage, but you will be experiencing more autonomy. Once you’ve reached 90 days, we expect publication strategists to function in their roles with support. We never expect questions to stop, especially not right after your initial new hire training concludes! We try to prepare you to tackle things on your own and as a team, but we don’t expect you to know everything after 90 days. You will be proficient on the tech side of things and feel confident in your ability to pitch to editors, provide content strategy suggestions, and communicate with clients. You’ll be showing more autonomy and becoming more equipped to process feedback. You’ll have a strong understanding of client strategy and how to balance client goals and publication preferences. At six months, you are cruising right along! You know the clients and publications you work with well and are capable of providing feedback to them and receiving it in turn. You have developed strategies to manage your content queue well and are securing valuable placements and wins for clients. You’re still pulling in support on those new-to-you situations, but you’re looking to the future and setting goals for what’s to come. It’s now been one year. You’re getting a “Happy Workiversary!” shout-out and maybe a little gift to mark this milestone. At this time, you are truly comfortable collaborating on client strategies and communicating with publication editors in a persuasive and helpful tone. Your communication with clients and internal teams is on point. You are able to navigate tricky client needs and confidently contribute your ideas because they’re backed by experience, research, and purpose. Your ability to solve problems, create new solutions for clients, and pursue relevant media trends and topics is second nature.

There are also opportunities to earn quarterly bonuses based on performance after the first 90 days.
