The Attic is seeking to hire a full-time Director of Development to oversee its fundraising program and position the organization for further growth. In partnership with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will oversee strategies to raise funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, and the government sector. The Attic currently operates with a 1.8-million-dollar budget. The Director of Development will report directly to the Executive Director. The position provides a great opportunity to oversee all aspects of fundraising for a growing nonprofit. Responsibilities The Director of Development will oversee the development department of The Attic, which includes: Planning and Strategy- Drive the work of the development team including long-term, annual, and day-to-day planning, prioritizing, and management of The Attic’s development work. Create an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with Attic staff and board leadership. Donor Relations- Manage The Attic’s giving program, developing the strategies, cultivation activities, materials/messages, and stewardship programs required to attract and retain gifts from individuals. Work with The Attic’s Executive Director, Board, and Donor Relations Associate to find, cultivate, and solicit new major donors. Prepare the E.D. and board for donor meetings. Build relationships with donors. Grant Writing and Grants Management- Maintain and expand our grants program, draft and edit grant proposals and/or work in collaboration with a grant writing consultant to develop proposals, prepare timely grant reports, steward relationships with existing foundation donors, cultivate new foundations, and develop strategies for aligning The Attic’s programmatic goals and projects with the interests of corporate foundations. Manage grant tracking and record keeping. Event Planning- Work in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board to organize small events that would enhance The Attic’s donor cultivation strategies. Plan larger fundraising events on a less frequent basis. Marketing and Communications- supervise and develop content for online and offline fundraising campaigns and newsletters (direct mail, social media, and email). Create content for Attic website, social media accounts, and print marketing materials. Information Management- Ensure ongoing communication with donors, timely gift acknowledgement, accurate record keeping in Salesforce, and tracking and reporting. Staff Management- Supervise a full-time Development Associate and a part-time Donor Relations Associate. Board of Directors- Partner effectively with The Attic’s Board to raise funds for the organization. Participate in the Board fundraising committee and other Board committees as needed. Community Relations- Serve as external facing ambassador for The Attic with existing supporters and the community of potential future supporters. Assist with coordinating volunteers who inquire about service at The Attic. Other- Other development functions as needed. Qualifications -Bachelors degree or higher and Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment, including at least 3 years of previous grant writing experience. Familiarity with regional and local funders a plus. -Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major individual and institutional donors in traditional and creative ways. -Strong staff and program management skills. -Excellent writer and communicator- ability to make The Attic’s work come alive through written materials, stories, and talking points. The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Wikimania Program Manager, to advance the Wikimedia movement’s vision of every human being able to freely share in the sum of all knowledge; as well as its strategic direction - that by 2030, Wikimedia will become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge, and anyone who shares our vision will be able to join us. As Wikimania Program Manager, you will be responsible for full and timely delivery of an important annual international flagship event of the Wikimedia movement; Wikimania. Located in different parts of the world each year, Wikimania is a key opportunity for our community of volunteers from all over the world to connect and collaborate on the movement’s goals. You will be the primary liaison between staff, contractors, volunteers, committees and local host teams who collectively plan, organize, and run this important event. The annual Wikimania program is mainly led by volunteer efforts, which you will provide input to and facilitate, where required. You will build and iterate on a strategic 3-5 year plan for Wikimania to ensure the event provides effective support to Wikimedia communities, and to ensure that the event runs sustainably, fosters interesting, timely and thought provoking dialogue, learning and conversations, and that it supports the global open and free knowledge agenda more generally. You will coordinate closely with a diverse range of volunteers and local event hosts, helping them navigate processes and guiding the overall effort to timely conclusions. You will collaborate to secure hosts from around the world for Wikimania several years in advance. You will bring precision, long range planning, attention to detail, energy, enthusiasm, patience, compassion, a natural interest to work with people from around the world, and a capacity to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and experience levels. You will be a key member of the Wikimedia Foundation’s Community Convenings & Events team, which is a relatively new team. You will be an active “builder” of processes and procedures that will benefit the team and the community we serve. These processes and procedures must be sensitive to the ethos of the movement and to a growing international community, as well as compliant with Wikimedia Foundation procedures. Your perspectives and experience will guide an evolving approach to convenorship in what is primarily an online community. You are responsible for: Budget management: participating in budgeting and forecasting exercises, estimating major conference costs; creating and managing budgets; preparing invoices for payment. Facilitating the bidding, review, negotiation, and finalization of contracts for venues and vendors. Scoping, recruiting, and supervising contractors handling logistics of events. Hire and supervise local temporary staff as needed. Conducting regular international travel for site visits to host locations. Identifying and approaching potential sponsors for Wikimania Actively supporting and fostering a cadre of volunteers who work on Wikimania; enlisting and maintaining relationships with them after the event, as well as coaching or mentoring host teams where needed so that volunteer skills and capacity are built. Facilitating and working collaboratively with these volunteers to provide advice, guidance, and support for the local host teams. Working closely and collaboratively with several WMF teams: Finance and Administration, Travel, Legal, Communications, Trust & Safety, Community Relations, Community Development and Learning & Evaluation to ensure their input and involvement in Wikimania preparations. Identifying movement partners with aligned agendas for potential collaboration. Working with an event coordinator and logistics team/contractors to ensure that all space and logistic requirements are met, including: A-V, internet connectivity, registration, printing and signage, accommodations, accessibility compliance, security, transportation and catering. Ensuring that the Friendly/Safe Space Policy is upheld and implemented at Wikimania. Coordinating with key stakeholders to ensure that an event registration system, database (CRM), web site, and other software is in place to enhance registration, logistics, promotion and program design. Ensuring that the onsite needs of WMF Executives are met during and at Wikimania. Managing a comprehensive post-event analysis and debrief with all stakeholders to learn from experience and make recommendations for future events; documenting these analyses/debriefs. Department Summary The School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) is an accredited research and professional school serving approximately 2,200 undergraduates and 100 graduate students both on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene and at the George S. Turnbull Center in Portland. Degrees offered are the BA, BS, MA, MS and Ph.D., as well as a minor in Media Studies. The school also supports the interdisciplinary major in Cinema Studies and interdisciplinary minors in Multimedia and Native Studies. The SOJC employs approximately 125 individuals as faculty and staff, over 50 graduate employees as well as roughly 50 student employees. The School is one of the oldest journalism programs in the nation, founded in 1916. Position Summary The Student Experiences Coordinator is the first point of contact and curator of facilities, equipment, and training related to the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) catalog of hands-on learning initiatives in the SOJC Student Experiences HUB. This position consults with SOJC students, faculty and Partners to make production, equipment and crew recommendations to help with faculty projects, research, and programs. Serving as a key instructional technology specialist in support of hands-on learning for the SOJC, the Student Experiences Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the SOJC Student Experiences HUB. Our customers, and the communities we live and work in, are at the heart of everything we do. And that’s why, from 2020, we’re going to donate around £10million over the next five years to support local projects, charities and community groups, helping to make a real and tangible difference in the communities we serve.
The Fund will be overseen by a customer panel whose role will be to review applications and ultimately decide where our money will be spent.
We are searching for a chair person to lead this panel.
The community fund
Our customers have helped us to create and shape our new Community
Fund. We’ve spoken to lots of people to better understand their community needs, and as a result, have chosen to design our fund around improving community wellbeing.
By community wellbeing we mean:
People:Projects that facilitate healthier lifestyles and skills development
Places: Projects that help to create better places to live in and use
Environment: Projects that facilitate a healthier natural environment, greater access to that environment or support the preservation of water
And of course, being a water company, we’d also love applications for projects that have a connection to the water cycle too! This might mean creating sustainable drainage, installing grey water recycling, creating water efficient green spaces or encouraging hydration for health.
We’ve recruited a new Community Fund team whose role will be to promote the scheme, provide support to grant applicants and to assess the grant applications against our eligibility criteria.
The Community Fund team will then make recommendations to the panel. The Community Panel will meet face to face on a quarterly basis to review these recommendations and ultimately decide where they want our money to go.
The panel itself will be approximately 9 people and include a mix of Severn Trent customers and our own employees; all with a range of interests and backgrounds.
Grant applications will open in January 2020 via our website. In March, we’ll be holding our first Customer Panel and from April 2020 we’ll be administering our first grants.
The Panel Member role:
Role objective:
To be a valuable member of our customer panel by making fair and evidence-based decisions, in line with our eligibility criteria and guidelines, on which projects should be recipients of grants through Severn Trent’s new Community Fund
Key accountabilities:
• Support with making fair and evidence -based decisions, in line with the fund’s eligibility criteria andguidelines.
• Always act in good faith and in the best interests of Severn Trent and our customers.
• Participate and engage with the process fully including reading preparation documents prior to the meetings to facilitate informed discussions.
• Communicate well, contribute your own opinions and challenge where necessary.
• Conduct a review of smaller-sized grants by exception on a monthly basis.
• Attend quarterly panel meetings held in March, June, September and December (duration c.4 hrs per meeting).
• Follow and adhere to Community Fund guidelines, eligibility processes etc.
• Occasional support with Community Fund review reporting and strategy development, and make recommendations for improvement.

We’ll ask you come prepared having read all relevant documents prior to the meetings to facilitate informed discussions (c.1hr per month).
You will also be required to conduct a review of smaller-sized grants by exception on a monthly basis (c. 1hr per month) which can be done from home.
The role will be unpaid & voluntary, with all reasonable expenses will be

We don’t expect someone to know everything about a given topic, but you should be able to learn as you go, building on a solid foundation of existing knowledge.
