Full-Time Business Sales Engineer

A Brief Overview
The Business Sales Engineer is responsible for technical and business requirements, discovery, proposal preparation support and technical presentations to customers for Sparklight’s full suite of products and solutions. This position serves as the team’s technical person partner for DIA, Dark Fiber, Optical Transport, Ethernet, Voice and Managed Services by determining client requirements and providing designs.
What you will do:
  • Collaborates with sales executives to plan, prepare and execute on strategic deals in complex sales cycles.
  • Acts as lead for review and responses to technical questionnaires for all Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Master Service Agreements (MSA).
  • Manages and interprets customer requirements by collecting customer’s questions and concerns and analyzing them so the organization can understand and develop a solution.
  • Creates and delivers powerful presentations and demos that clearly communicate the uniqueness of the value proposition.
  • Ensures smooth transfer of solution design details and knowledge from Sales Engineering team to Engineering teams and Project Management teams for all new service implementations.
  • Achieves sales goals and quotas.
  • Trains other members of the sales team on the technical aspects of the company’s products and services.
  • Promotes the use of industry and Company technological standards, ensures successful integration of custom development platforms, and monitors emerging technology practices for potential use within the Company.
  • Collaborates with vendors and industry peers internally and externally to ensure the integrity of the business solutions being developed.
  • Handles the preliminary design and technical aspects of multiple large scope projects, inclusive of cross-functional coordination and heavy collaboration with customers to meet design requirements.
  • Takes on other duties needed to help drive our Purpose, fulfill our Brand Principles, and abide by our Organization’s Values.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree A.A. or equivalent from two-year college or technical school required.
  • An equivalent amount of experience may substitute for the education
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 5 years or more Experience in sales engineering, systems engineering, or sales required.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize, and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must possess broad knowledge of telecommunications, along with strong understanding of voice, video, and data transport.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills; confidence and ability to interface at Senior Operations level.
  • Strong computer skills including Windows based applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio).
  • Presentation skills.
  • Must have knowledge of networking protocols to include: SONET, DWDM, Ethernet, LAN/WAN, FR/ATM, VoIP, TDM voice, MPLS and wireless.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble resolution abilities.
  • MEF Carrier Ethernet Certification Program (MEF-CECP) preferred.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA) preferred.
