Job description

World class Defence Equipment requires world class maintenance and support to sustain its capability in the most challenging environments around the globe.

The Technical Through Life Support (TTLS) role is primarily technical, with a bias towards Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and through life management. As a TTLS Specialist, you will be interested in a challenging and rewarding career to help shape the future development and implementation of innovative support solutions for some of the most complex, dynamic and cutting-edge technology used by the UK Armed Forces.

You will be part of the Naval Ship Support (Waterfront) (NSS(W)) team who are responsible for the delivery of new and in-service support to surface fleet vessels, associated shore based naval resources and equipment.

A key responsibility of this post is the delivery of a Containerised Engineering Support Facility (CESF) for the Navy’s Forward Support Unit (FSU). CESFs consists of a set of bespoke containers providing power, workshops, stores, offices and mess facilities allowing remote operational and service support capability to our surface fleet anywhere in the world. The role is diverse and requires an individual who can collaborate with multi-functional teams across industry and the naval base, is able to prioritise, multitask, and take command of situations with confidence.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all aspects of the CESF delivery program managing progress from concept to end of life. This includes working closely with our naval and industrial partners ensuring support solutions, including all documentation, are optimised and meet customer expectations.

Additional aspects of the role include management of engineering support, through our service delivery partner, for the following; Naval shore facilities Engineering. Non-Portsmouth based Surface fleet vessels surface support (Visiting Ships). Portable Specialised Support Equipment Store (PSSE). Royal Navy’s Fire trials evaluation unit support. Provide data for and assist with departments financial reporting. Provide secondary support to the Material Support Group (MSG) ensuring ministry supplied materials (MSM) are available to meet ships upkeep schedules.

As part of a small team you will be required to represent the department at various review meetings and briefings, standing in for senior members of staff as required.

Additionally the role may include –

• Contributing to the definition and development of the platform/equipment’s ILS plan and associated ILS documentation using ILS methodologies.
• In liaison with colleagues develop, implement and optimise support solutions through the provision of relevant, timely and accurate support information, data and analysis.
• Assist colleagues set, manage and improve platform/equipment availability, reliability and sustainability targets considering levels of failure, repair and engineering service requirements.
• Help colleagues define, manage and adjust Service contract arrangements.
• Provide specialist technical support, e.g. tools, test eqpt, software, training, technical documentation and publications.
• Assist with design, and introduce platform/ equipment updates and upgrades ensuring due diligence to all aspects of ILS.
• Provide specialist obsolescence support, working with specialists from other areas of the business to manage platform/equipment obsolescence ensure adherence to the platform/ equipment Obsolescence Plan.
• Support and work with other colleagues to plan for platform/equipment end-of-service life.
• Identify and mitigate the management of Technical Through Life Support Risks.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Experience of working in one of the following fields – ILS, supportability, engineering or technical operations management
• Proven track record of delivering product support, equipment support solutions and/or optimisation of product performance
• Able to demonstrate knowledge of ILS methodologies and processes
• Ability to assist with the development of the ILS planning activities

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Working towards membership of a professional body. E.g. Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) at Eng Tech or IEng level, or membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

About your team

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
