Job description
As a result of internal progression, the Defence Munitions team are now seeking a dynamic Supply Chain Manager (SCM) to join them as the Senior Explosives Storage and Handling Approvals Manager (SESHAM); a safety critical post. This role would ideally be based at the Defence Munitions (DM) site in Kineton, but has room to be based at other DM sites in the UK including: DM Beith, DM Glen Douglas, DM Crombie, DM Longtown, DM Gosport or DM Plymouth.
Working on a site of almost 200 multi-disciplined staff (Kineton), this role will see the SCM as the main interface between the Depots, DM Head Office and DE&S Delivery Teams as the Subject Matter Expert who is responsible for the Approval to Store and Handle Explosives process, ensuring that all new to service munitions have the necessary explosive safety clearances prior to acceptance by DM and MOD stockpile. The SCM is also responsible for production of Storage and Handling Instructions for Munitions (SHIMs) which are the departmental safe systems of work for specific complex weapons.
The role is also responsible for production of Storage and Handling Equipment Procedures (SHEP) which detail the application of equipment used for the handling of explosive items.
In order to effectively carry out your role in supplying direction and advice to the DM sites where needed, it is important that you have a good understanding of the sites and are able to build strong working relationships via frequent liaisons with all of the Defence Munition site logistic leads and Delivery Teams. This will require regular site visits and so it is expected that you will be out of the office on average 4-5 days per month.
Due to the nature of the role there will be occasional overnight stays due to travel.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role will include:
• Manage and develop close working relationships with Delivery Teams and Defence munitions Logistic Managers and other key logistic partners.
• Provide guidance and direction to DM staff on explosive storage, handling and transportation requirements including ISO containerisation.
• Engage effectively with DM Senior management when required on matters affecting explosives safety.
• Contribute towards future development of complex weapon system containers to ensure that DMs ability to perform storage, handling and transportation activities aligns with current capability.
• To be a valued Member of the Munitions Packaging and Marking Working Group.
What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Extensive experience and knowledge of Weapons, Ordnances, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) regulations.
• A highly developed understanding of munitions logistics and transport operations, including replenishment in harbour activities, to provide appropriate advice, guidance and direction to DM colleagues.
• Ability to engage, collaborate and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the Defence industry.
• Demonstrable experience of managing deadlines and prioritising work, whilst applying good attention to detail.

• A management or leadership qualification
• Experience in policy, instruction and process construction, review and implementation
• Experience of preparing and presenting reports and information for managers and colleagues to support meetings
• Experience of both ASTRID and AMANDA IT systems

The Integrated Logistics (iLog) Function is the integrating Function for Support within DE&S, responsible for the development, management and delivery of in-service support for our front-line command customers. The iLog Function consists of around 2,900 personnel, both civil servants and military, and with a wide range of disciplines ranging from operations management and supply chain management, technical through-life support and logistics delivery, to modelling and analysis.
