Are you fascinated by cutting-edge technology and excited by the chance to work first-hand with armoured vehicles, rocket launch systems, laser technology, fire control systems, targeting software, rifles and pistols?

DE&S are looking for a number of Senior Engineers to join their team in the Land Domain.

There are exciting opportunities for Chief and Lead Engineers within the Land Equipment Operating Centre. Roles are available in the following Teams:

Artillery Systems; This team is responsible for the procurement and support of mobile artillery and multi-launch rocket systems, man-portable radar systems, battlefield information systems and field guns.

Soldier Training and Special Programmes; This team is responsible for the procurement and support of soldier carried equipment, training systems and specialist remote control vehicles for ordnance, munitions and explosives activity.

Vehicle Demonstration and Manufacture; This team is responsible for getting two large and complex armoured vehicle programmes into the hands of the user. AJAX will provide a step-change in versatility and agility, whilst the Warrior upgrade programme will hugely enhance its performance.

Vehicle Support; This team is responsible for providing support to vehicles and equipment currently in-service, including Foxhound, Landrovers, Challenger 2 and the Cougar fleet.

There is also a position available in the Weapons Operating Centre (WOC). This WOC is responsible for the supply of new weapon systems, in-service support of existing weapon systems and management of the UK’s stockpile of munitions, providing expert advice on ordnance and explosives, and delivering a range of pan-Defence Test & Evaluation services. The key role is within the Complex Weapons area of the WOC and will provide engineering expertise and management across a range of projects, including the development and adoption of new technologies and approaches.

Responsibilities

As a successful Senior Engineer, you will be able to demonstrate a deep knowledge and understanding with experience of setting strategy, applying standards, working within regulatory constraints, developing policy, processes, procedures and tools and communicating their intent.

You will lead the delivery of the engineering aspects of any single significant delivery area and demonstrate the necessary experience to undertake the following typical key responsibilities:

• Lead, manage and integrate multi-disciplined engineering or science teams; directing engineering resources to deliver packages of work or services to quality, time and cost.
• Ensure technical risks and opportunities are captured and actively managed
• Provide recommendations for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of processes to the Function Manager.
• Represent the engineering function at project and operating centre level
• Ability to manage budgets.
• Hold safety delegation.
• Stakeholder management at all levels.
• Conduct engineering planning, management, review and maturity assessment activities.
• Ensure solutions are clearly defined, integrated, configured, controlled and delivered, including resolution of conflicts and integration issues.

Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate the skills to apply Systems Thinking in a major delivery area and the application of quality management and assurance in defence supply chains. You will be able to confidently display skills and experience of working within a complex system or process to meet customer requirements within realistic constraints, whilst having the ability to identify and rationalise interdependencies between multiple issues in complex delivery environments.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Level 6 (or higher) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or the equivalent working experience
• Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects.
• Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or ability to achieve it within 12 months of appointment

• Software experience
