The Legal Aid Society’s Development team annually raises $15-$16M from individuals, law firms, companies, and foundations. The 10-member Development Team is preparing to launch our 150th Anniversary campaign and recently launched a Legacy Circle. Therefore, the Major Gifts unit is expanding to include a third team member, the Manager of Individual Giving.

Reporting to the Director, Major Giving and Donor Engagement, the Manager of Individual Giving is a new opportunity aimed at growing our major donor membership program, the Justice Network, and our 1876 Legacy Circle.

The Manager will be responsible for strengthening and marketing the Justice Network to prospective donors, managing and administering Justice Network benefits (such as events, updates, engagement opportunities) at every level of the program, and ensuring that members are solicited and communicated with on a regular basis. A prime focus of the manager will be to identify new prospects and market the program through a variety of channels (via email, website, direct mail) to build a steady pipeline of new Justice Network members and encourage upgraded memberships within the Network. The Manager will play a vital role in achieving ambitious revenue goals, upgrading donors to the Justice Network, and will help steward “Advocate” $2,500 and “Change Agent” $5,000 donors.

Additionally, the Manager will be focused on partnering with the Director and Development Associate to market our legacy giving opportunities and programs throughout the year. They will be focused on mass marketing outreach to prospective and current Legacy Circle members, building a pipeline for the Director’s relationship management of our planned giving donors.

This position is responsible for project management and day-to-day operations as they will assist in coordinating multi-channel marketing and planning Justice Network high-touch cultivation and stewardship virtual and in person events.

In addition to these duties, the Manager will also assist the Development Department in special projects and assignments, including preparations for our Annual Awards Dinner and other annual campaigns and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Marketing to Mid-level Donor, Justice Network Members, and Planned Giving Prospects

  • Develop goals for the number of donors at the Advocate and Change Agent levels and continue to grow and strengthen Justice Network giving at these levels
  • Develop specialized Justice Network acquisition marketing, in coordination with the Development communication team, across channels (mail, email, phone), leading scheduling, copy, mail plans, data quality, landing pages, etc
  • Lead and develop content and schedule for planned giving mailings and emails to Legacy Circle members

Mid-level Giving, Justice Network Management, and Donor Engagement

  • Manage all operational aspects of the Justice Network annual major donor program, ensuring that benefits, communications, and solicitations are conveyed via email and mail on schedule, coordinating with Director of Major Gifts and Donor Engagement on any individual solicitations that they will handle
  • Stay informed with Legal Aid news and help create and write insider updates and timely donor communications for annual and planned giving donors
  • Over time, opportunity to manage a small, but growing portfolio of prospects and donors

Database and Reporting Management

  • Oversee major donor and Justice Network Raiser’s Edge/NXT database management, ensuring full personal adoption of policies and practices
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications
  • Prepare regular reports on donors, and campaign activities, tracking progress towards annual targets
  • Monitor revenue and expenses related to membership and mid-level giving, support Director in areas of development reporting

Donor Programming and Justice Network Events

  • Identify and develop creative engagement partnerships that support both the engagement of the Justice Network and provide opportunities for the Director of Major Gifts and Development Associate to deepen connections to donors in their portfolios
  • Take lead in strategizing, producing, and implementing small donor cultivation events (virtual and in person) for individuals, Justice Network, supporting effective, seamless execution
  • Manage implementing and building on Justice Network benefits, including adapting Legal Aid trainings and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs to our key donor groups

Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with digital direct marketing to midlevel or major donors—and utilizing donor acquisition strategies
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of midlevel, major gift and/or planned giving fundraising
  • Exceptional communicative and persuasive abilities, including strong written, verbal, and presentation skills that can articulate compelling reasons to support The Legal Aid Society
  • Familiarity with donor prospecting, including best-practice web-based research tools
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases, preferably Raisers’ Edge database and NXT moves management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work with staff at all levels, interact with donors, and represent the organization tactfully and diplomatically
  • Creative thinker with excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated and ability to work independently and enjoys collaborating in a team environment
  • Data-driven with the ability to achieve results and complete assignments in a timely manner, managing multiple projects simultaneously, working under deadline pressures
  • Sense of professionalism, confidentiality, independent judgment, and an exceptional work ethic
  • Passion for equal and social justice and the non-profit sector preferred

SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the program managerial role.  The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

 

Salary Range/ Salary: $89,178 to $95,000
