Full-Time Staff Accountant
Job Description
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest honorary societies, is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Finance team. In this role, the Staff Accountant will assist with preparing and maintaining financial records, accounts payables, and other financial related activities for the Academy. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, a general understanding of accounting principles, and a commitment to the mission of the Academy.
This position will be onsite in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Monday to Friday 40 hours a week.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounts payable functions, including entering invoices into the accounting system and ensures invoices, reimbursements, and employee expense reports are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices, participant reimbursements, and employee expense reports.
- Maintain accurate and up to date vendor records and communicate with vendors regarding payment status and inquiries.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any outstanding issues.
- Responsible for on-site and online financial record filing.
- Assist with month-end closing processes and provide support for audits.
- Assist with cash receipts posting and deposits.
- Reconciles GL Accounts under the direction of the Director of Finance
- Assists with maintaining the purchasing and expense reporting system.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Manages the inventory and purchasing of general office supplies for the Cambridge office.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Ability:
- Minimum experience required: Associates degree in related area or any combination of education or experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
- Ability to learn or experience with ERP software such as Acumatica (preferred) or similar (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, NetSuite).
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and grant accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn quickly, prioritize tasks, and work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
