Job Description
Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent classified Sign Language Program Support Supervisor 2 in the Disability Support Services (DSS) department. This position will report to the Director of Disability Support Services. The hours for this position are typically Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00 pm. Hours may vary based on coordination needs. This position can create positive impact for students by helping Clark towards our goal in working to eliminate systemic barriers for our students, our third Mission Fulfillment Outcome.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise interpreters, which includes interviewing and recommending the selecting of applicants, training new employees, acting upon leave requests, conducting annual performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary action.
• Schedule staff interpreters and part-time hourly interpreters for a variety of assignments, such as classes, special events, and substitution requests based on students’ and interpreters’ language level, preference, strengths, educational background, etc.
• Schedule CART/Typewell transcribers, coordinating video captioning, and invoicing for these accommodation services.
• Develop, track, and monitor budgets expenses related to interpreting and captioning requests.
• Track staff and part-time interpreter hours and process interpreter time sheets, applications, contracts, and other necessary paperwork.
• Collect and analyze data.
• Problem solve with students, staff, faculty, and interpreters regarding issues associated with interpreting and deafness.
• Assist students with accessing DSS services and processes for using their approved accommodations.
• Train students on how to use the accommodation management system called AIM.
• Assist the DSS team with implementation of student accommodations, including: alternate format editing, proctoring of accommodated exams, and supporting the front desk.
• Serve on campus committees and inform college staff on captioning and interpreting resources available.
• May serve on ASL/Interpreting community advisory boards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Competencies:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
• Education: Two years of college-level course work in the following areas: Counseling, Social Work, Education, ASL, Linguistics, Deaf Ed, Deaf Cultural Studies, Hearing, Speech, & Language or other related fields. Additional related experience may be substituted for college course work on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience: fluent in ASL. Must have the ability or skill to evaluate and assess both interpreter and student language levels.
• Computer Skills: experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, or comparable software/systems as well as information management systems.
• Communication Skills: written – composition, grammar, spelling, proofreading; verbal – effectively communicates with diverse individuals and groups within and outside of the organization; provides effective customer service.
• Self-directed: ability to produce accurate and timely work with minimal supervision.
• Problem Solving Skills: uses intelligence, common sense, and tenacity to solve difficult or complicated challenges.
• Understanding and commitment to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct.
• Coordination Skills: Experience coordinating, planning, or scheduling. Experience could be in the interpreting field, event planning, medical scheduling, or other professional settings.
• Competency: Knowledge of the Interpreting field and Deaf Culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Course work from the following areas: Counseling, Social Work, Education, ASL, Linguistics, Deaf Ed, Deaf Cultural Studies, Hearing, Speech, & Language or other related fields.
• Prior interpreter scheduling experience.
• Experience serving students with disabilities in the educational setting.
• Providing sign language interpreting services for classroom and college related activities.
• Completion of a sign language interpreter training program and/or certification from RID and/or NAD level III-V.
• Experience supervising and leading others.

• The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.

Salary/Benefits:
Starting Salary: $3,758/month Range: 50 Code: 107Q
