Full-Time Development Manager, URJ West Camps

Job Description

THE ROLE 

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Camp Kalsman and 6 Points West seek a dynamic and passionate Development Manager to help create a vibrant summer camp and year-round youth and family engagement experience. The Development Manager supports and implements the fundraising and development strategy to support the URJ and camps in creating communities of belonging that build confidence and character of young people, so they are inspired as leaders to make the world a better place and pursue lifelong engagement in Jewish life. The Development Manager works closely with the West Camps Development team. Together, they strategize, coordinate, and support all development activities, communications, correspondence and, data and information management throughout URJ West.   

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

The Development Manager reports to the West Camps’ Development Director and is responsible for the following: 

LEADERSHIP   

  • Support the work of the Development Director (DD), work closely with the camp’s lay leadership and collaborate with year-round camp team.   
  • Participate in all aspects of fundraising, gift processing, and grant seeking and writing that supports the vision of our capital campaign, annual scholarship campaign, and opportunities for niche grants that align with our mission.  
  • In partnership with DD, execute the development strategy, including fundraising programs for annual campaign, capital campaigns, and scholarship, in consultation with camp leadership, professional and lay. 
  • Works closely with the DD and Camp Directors, positioning them to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals and organizations.  
  • Assist DD with the facilitation of identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.  
  • Continually works to elevate each of these individual efforts to broaden awareness of our progress and growth. 
  • Maintain a consistent presence as a leader within the camp community with respect to role modeling of institutional and racial equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI) principles, Jewish values, supervision and accountability for all rules and procedures, and dedication in all respects to the camp’s mission and vision.  

 

ADMINISTRATION & DATA MANAGEMENT  

  • Oversee day-to-day administration of all development programs, including the acknowledgement and record-keeping process. 
  • Work to help streamline and maintain data to create a robust alumni database. 
  • Manage the Donor Database (Salesforce). Ensure all donations are entered and acknowledged properly 
  • Over time, develop a keen understanding of individual and collective donor patterns. 
  • Configure and manage database query and reporting. Assess and recommend best practices as result of analysis. 
  • Maintain pledge tracking and invoicing of pledge payments. 
  • Coordinate data entry and reporting with URJ development department colleagues and resources. 
  • Assist with design and execution of regular reporting (with DD and Camp Directors) for gifts, campaigns, targets, etc.   
  • Process timely gift acknowledgement letters, tributes, pledge acknowledgements, manage gift processing and assist with financial reconciliations. 
  • Manage reporting requirements for all grants 

 

COMMUNICATIONS  

  • In partnership with Marketing team, help coordinate communications for camps fundraising efforts, including, but not limited: event publicity, web communication, and more. 
  • Manage and execute the donor acknowledgement process. 
  • Assist in the production and mailing of appeals, newsletters, emails, reports, or other materials to donors and/or prospects. 

 

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT   

  • Assist DD (and Directors) to manage relationships and coordinate development activities. 
  • Work closely with lay leadership, directing and managing their participation in development efforts and the camp committee. 
  • Manage lay development committee and board giving. 
  • Provide administrative support to alumni efforts.  
  • Help plan and execute donor cultivation, celebration, and solicitation events, as current COVID-19 protocols allow.

  • Communication. Effective oral and written communication skills and able to utilize and different forms of relevant media. Ability to approach donors with the right message in relation to fundraiser efforts that can lead to great impact and giving.   
  • Data Management. Ability to perform in-depth data research to understand donor-base and increase impact.  
  • Organization, Planning, and Multi-tasking. Advanced organizational and planning skills, including formal and informal event planning. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision. With training, be able to learn new processes and procedures in a timely manner. Detail-oriented with a focus on efficiency and accuracy.   
  • Self-Management and Teamwork. Ability to work independently or as a member of the team. Eager to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to identify organizational stress points, ask for help, and succeed in a fast-paced environment.   
  • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience prioritizing and executing on Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities.  

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Live in residence at camp during camp season.  
  • occasional in-person meetings, as needed
