Title: HR Manager
Reports to: HR Director
Supervises: HR Administrator
Hours: 40 hrs/week
Compensation: $79,000 – $94,000/year (dependent on location)

Trans Lifeline connects trans people to the community, resources, and support they need to survive and thrive–building a resilient trans community through trans-led direct services. Trans Lifeline’s Hotline provides peer support and crisis support. Our Microgrants program provides low-barrier grants to trans people in need of legal name changes and updated government IDs, HRT, as well as funds for trans people who are incarcerated. By providing care and financial redistribution, Trans Lifeline identifies the trans community’s most pressing needs and brings that expertise to broader gender and racial justice movements.
Principal Responsibilities
- Partners with the HR Director to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, succession planning, and daily workflow of the department.
- Provides supervision, support, and guidance to HR Generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
- Create and facilitate training programs for staff members at the organization and ensure managers and staff are sufficiently trained
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
- Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
- Supports in team member disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Essential Qualifications
- 2+ years of human resource management experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with G Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
Bonus Points
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3+ years of human resources experience.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
This full-time position will work remotely, with the option for an office if local to the SF Bay area. Compensation for this position is dependent on Trans Lifeline’s salary structure. We estimate a qualified candidate will earn $79,000 – $94,000/year (dependent on location). We know that the practice of salary negotiation can contribute to pay inequities. Therefore, as part of our efforts to maintain a transparent salary structure and ensure just and equitable compensation across the organization starting offers are not negotiable.
