NOVA Chemicals is seeking a SmartPlant 3D (S3D) Specialist to join their Engineering Information Management (EIM) team.

The S3D Specialist role is the primary contact in NOVA Chemicals for project set up, maintenance and support of the S3D system. The S3D specialist will maintain all areas of the 3D models for all manufacturing locations. They shall ensure the modelling environment works appropriately regarding the generation, control, and distribution of 3D model interfaces.

NOVA Chemicals is currently translating their existing PDS and Autoplant models to S3D. Experience in executing this activity would be advantageous.

The role is primarily involved with S3D but knowledge of, and experience in the integration of other SmartPlant applications would be beneficial. Please ensure that resumes clearly indicate the specific application and the level of knowledge in the use of the tool.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Provide technical expertise for resolution of day-to-day S3D issues and problems
  • Troubleshoot user problems and provide resolutions or escalate with vendor
  • Maximize effectiveness by ensuring all available features of S3D on the running version are being fully exploited by end users
  • Identify recurring S3D issues, developing and implement solutions
  • Identify and implement S3D configuration changes to meet users’ needs
  • Design and perform checks and tests to ensure optimum system performance
  • Monitor S3D releases (e.g., hot fixes, new versions…), review changes, determine need to deploy
  • Act as liaison on S3D issues with software vendor
  • Analyze, develop, and provide solutions to meet business needs
  • Stay current with changes and direction in industry and vendors
  • Manage directory permissions, shares, domain accounts and access control
  • Participate in development of short and long-term software strategies
  • Network with counterparts at other NOVA locations
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver end-user training to existing and new users
  • Manage S3D workflows (development, updates, continuous improvement)
  • Develop and maintain S3D procedures
  • Support projects to ensure the NOVA Chemicals systems and standards related to S3D are followed
  • Interface with Alliance partners to identify opportunities for process improvement and provide S3D support
  • Perform S3D Project Setup and Configuration as per project requirements.
  • Configure S3D Piping, Cable Tray, Equipment & Structural Reference Catalog as per project requirements.
  • Configure Orthographic Drawings, Isometric Drawings and Reports as required.
  • Help design, configure, and deploy integrated engineering systems.
  • Coordinate all IT issues related to S3D with NOVA IT resources.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Internal or client SmartPlant Presentations.
  • Audit S3D deliverables for consistency
  • Create department standard and project specific reports and reporting methods as needed.
  • Create complex reporting including SQL and VB.
  • Carry out application database maintenance activities. Updating of piping specifications from SRD.
  • Continually seeking opportunities to increase end-user productivity
  • Implement automation tools that will benefit the project deliverables

What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 8+ years related experience and continued professional development or a Technical diploma with a minimum of 12+ years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and qualifications may be considered. 10+ years of administrative experience on S3D and experience in the Petrochemical industry is preferred.

In addition, the successful candidate will have:

  • In depth knowledge of S3D including configuration knowledge and skills
  • Working knowledge of SmartPlant suite of products (e.g., SmartPlant Foundation (SPF), SDx Operations, Smart Isometrics, Smart Reference Data (SRD), etc.)
  • Sound Knowledge of Piping Materials, codes, and standards.
  • Working knowledge and experience of S3D integration with SmartPlant Suite
  • Knowledge of Engineering processes and workflow in an owner/operator environment.
  • Familiarity with other Engineering tools is an asset (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD …)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Microsoft suite)
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience utilizing LFM laser scan data and utilizing other 3D systems will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of S3D metadata browser, writing SQL Queries, custom commands and Visual basic.
