A dynamic opportunity for a MHE Instructor to join Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) at Defence Munitions Crombie.
As the MHE Instructor you will deliver training on Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) and Forklift trucks based on the site at Crombie. You will also be required to travel to deliver training at the site in Glen Douglas.
You will be significant in providing information and training on a range of MHE and Industrial Truck Groups (ITG), allowing Defence Munitions staff to work in a safe and compliant manner. You will be responsible for observing MHE operating procedures and the use of equipment for MHE auditing.
Primarily providing MHE training, you will also construct training and associated presentations, manage training records and offer subject matter expert advice and support to management and the wider business.
Responsibilities
• Construction, delivery and evaluation of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) training: covering Basic, Job Specific, Conversion and Refresher training on various categories of MHE and attachments. Additionally, you will be required to learn and deliver other MHE lessons / ITG categories and other associated areas as required
• Associated MHE training: maintain currency with legislation and regulations applicable to MHE (for example LOLER, PUWER, ACOP 117) and ensure that training is conducted in line with legislation, regulations and organisational direction/policy
•Deliver education regarding Storage and Handling Instructions for Munitions (SHIM’s) & Storage and Handling Equipment Procedures (SHEP’s)
•Deliver associated MHE training such as container loading/shoring, load and load restraint training and MHE Manager/Supervisor training
• Evaluate and report on training delivered by external provider: assess operator skills following external training provision and observe externally provided training where possible?
• Assess and Analyse Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) operations: seeking to identify issues if applicable and areas appropriate for development
• Creating and maintaining learner records: following delivery of training produce and maintain training records
• Act as a point of contact for training delivery: Engage with stakeholders at various levels to provide specialist advice on subject area and other complex issues Coordinating with DM site Focal Points in order to produce, agree and facilitate the training delivery plan, maintaining flexibility of delivery schedule
• Providing administrative support, advice and assistance to the training team: Consider current or identify new training requirements and subsequently create training solutions/presentations. Assist with compiling the Statement of Training Requirements (SOTR)
You will be required to deliver presentations in a variety of environments (classroom, warehouse, outdoor). This role also requires you to regularly travel to Defence Munitions sites (circa 50 days per annum) with potentially some overnight stays. Additionally, there will be considerable office-based administration and IT work.
Due to operating vehicles and the transporting of equipment on site you will need to hold a full UK driving license.
What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• Hold an MHE Instructor qualification from an accredited awarding body (eg. AITT, RTITB)
• Outstanding presentation skills with particular strength in using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to design and deliver presentations to large audiences
• Ability to work autonomously and plan your own workload
• Hold a Full UK driving license
