Job title: Volunteer Inclusion Coordinator
Responsible to: Volunteer Manager
Location: Remote working (within the Hertfordshire radius), with frequent travel across
Hertfordshire, and occasional travel to Luton, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and
London.
Working Hours: Part Time – 25 Hours per week (0.6) (2 Years Fixed Term Contract)

Salary: £28,738 pro rata per annum

PURPOSE OF ROLE
This role is funded through the National Lottery Reaching Communities Grant and plays an integral part
in the delivery of a new project, as well as supporting the strategic development of the organisation.
The Volunteer Inclusion Coordinator will help create a welcoming, inclusive environment for young
people, ensuring programmes and partnerships reflect the diverse communities we serve across
Hertfordshire. Working with a research partner and steering group, they will develop inclusive
recruitment practices, clear volunteer pathways, and supportive structures so a diverse volunteer base
feels welcomed, valued and able to thrive.

Success in this role will mean a more representative volunteer base, stronger relationships with
underrepresented communities, and inclusion embedded across volunteering and organisational
practices.

The role also supports the organisation’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) work, using
insight, feedback and lived experience to ensure young people feel seen, heard and supported.

KEY DUTIES

– Analyse baseline volunteer and service data to better understand the current demographic profile
of the volunteer base, and to inform targeted stakeholder engagement priorities.
– Commission and manage an external research partner to explore attitudes and barriers to
volunteering amongst Black and minoritised ethnic communities and LGBTQIA+ communities.
– Establish, onboard, manage and support the project steering group.
– Work with the project steering group and research partner to identify barriers that may prevent
volunteers from engaging and create an action plan to suggest practical solutions to improve
inclusion. Implement and monitor the action plan developed with the research partner, ensuring agreed
recommendations are carried out effectively to enhance volunteer inclusion and engagement
with Caudwell Youth.
– Promote volunteering opportunities within diverse communities across Hertfordshire, including
– Black and minoritised communities and LGBTQIA+ communities, youth centres, community
groups, faith organisations and local networks.
– Work in partnership with the operations and marketing teams to develop inclusive resources and
approaches that enable staff to confidently and consistently deliver inclusive activities.
– Work with the research partner to develop and implement methods to gather qualitative and
quantitative data, including feedback and case studies, to demonstrate project impact.
– Produce concise engagement and insight-led reports to inform the EDIB strategy, providing
regular updates to colleagues and working collaboratively to ensure inclusion is embedded across
all projects.
– Contribute to the development and delivery of the charity’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and
Belonging (EDIB) priorities.
– Champion inclusive language and accessible approaches across projects.

PARTNERSHIP & LIAISON

-Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse communities across Hertfordshire,
particularly LGBTQIA+ and Black and minoritised ethnic groups.
– Work collaboratively with stakeholders to recruit research participants and ensure insights are
returned to priority communities to foster trust and meaningful, lasting relationships.
– Work closely with youth centres, community groups, religious organisations and grassroots
networks to ensure our work is inclusive and accessible.
– Attend relevant community meetings, events and networking opportunities where appropriate.
– Work with the research partner to coordinate focus groups, listening sessions and
consultations with young people and community stakeholders.

VOLUNTEERS

-Promote the recruitment of volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, helping ensure
opportunities are accessible and welcoming to all.
-Identify priority inclusion themes within the project and develop targeted approaches to address
barriers to volunteering participation.
-Ensure volunteers understand the charity’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and
Belonging (EDIB).
-Support the coordination of volunteers involved in inclusion-related activities, such as focus
groups, events, training, workshops and community engagement.
-Promote a positive volunteering experience where everyone feels respected, safe and able to
contribute.

TEAM AND PROJECT ETHOS

– Support internal EDIB working groups, helping promote a culture of inclusion across the
organisation and establish a platform of shared learning.
-Encourage meaningful participation from young people, ensuring their voices help shape our
work.
-Model inclusive behaviours and encourage others to do the same.
-Demonstrate commitment to the organisation’s values, particularly in relation to fairness,
accessibility and belonging.

ADMINISTRATION

-Effectively use CRM systems to maintain records relating to EDIB activities, partnerships and
engagement.
-Contribute to funder reports, providing accurate data, case studies and summaries of inclusion
activity.
-Prepare agendas, papers and notes/minutes for inclusion-focused meetings, working groups and
consultations, and track agreed actions.
-Track project participation and analyse data to inform the ongoing development of project
strategy and stakeholder engagement approaches.
-Support the planning and scheduling of meetings, workshops and events related to inclusion
work.
-Ensure data is handled sensitively and respectfully in line with GDPR guidelines.

GENERAL

-Undertake and identify training as required and take a positive approach to personal
development.
-Fulfil the duties and responsibilities of an employee as regards to Health and Safety at Work,
including own safety and self-management.
-Attend team meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation.
-Undertake any other reasonable tasks deemed necessary.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS (ESSENTIAL) 

-Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive, trusting, and respectful relationships
with a wide range of people, demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity.
-Experience running focus groups, 1:1 consultations or engagement sessions.
-Demonstrated ability to manage projects, monitor actions and deadlines, and balance multiple
workstreams effectively.
-Strong understanding of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) principles.
-Confidence gathering, analysing and presenting feedback or participation data.
-Experience in coordinating groups, projects or collaborative workstreams.
-Experience in, or knowledge of, using CRM systems for data management, tracking, and reporting.
-Passion for improving opportunities for young people.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS (DESIRABLE)

-Experience of commissioning research or managing a commissioned project.
-Lived experience of, or strong insight into, working alongside underrepresented or marginalised
communities, with established, sustained, and authentic connections to these communities.
-Knowledge of VSCE and experience working within the third sector.
-Knowledge of trauma‑informed, strengths‑based or youth‑centred engagement approaches.
-Experience adapting engagement methods to reduce barriers to participation (e.g. accessibility,
language, cultural needs).
-Experience of working with young people.
-Experience using monitoring and evaluation platforms and tools.
