The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a full-time visiting Research Specialist to contribute to the delivery of research projects, including the design, execution, analysis and interpretation of experiments. The visiting Research Specialist will be involved in cell culture experiments, with an emphasis on recombinant virus-based manipulation of myofilament proteins.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct cell culture experiments, with an emphasis on lentiviral-based knockdown approaches and angiogenic cell assays.
- Perform regular maintenance and freezing of elegans strains.
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other laboratory researchers to design and perform microinjections to generate transgenic elegans strains.
- Design, construct, and analyze required DNA plasmids for both protein production and recombinant virus production.
- Test, optimize and implement both new and existing methods, procedures and techniques.
- Develop, write and maintain comprehensive laboratory protocols and records of results.
- Assist the PI in generating data and figures for grant applications and manuscripts.
- Aid in the preparation and implementation of general laboratory maintenance protocols (e.g. safety, training, waste management, animal); assist with ordering lab supplies and maintaining laboratory stock and inventories.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least three year of research experience, and a Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry or a related science. Experience with C. elegans and/or human cell culture techniques highly preferred. Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. Excellent organizational skills and attentional to detail is essential.
