Job Description

Position Summary
This position oversees clinical research studies in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. This position will be responsible for recruiting and retention of research subjects within the University and Community settings for the Multi-Omics for Health and Disease UIC Disease Study Site. This position will develop and implement standards for research protocol management, policies, and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or uses other methods according to established research protocols.
  • Prepare data for analysis and execute details of studies. Perform analysis and document results.
  • May conduct literature searches.
  • Order study supplies and maintain inventories.
  • Maintain detailed records of results and prepare written reports.
  • Maintain and process required paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Utilize communication skills to gain agreement from members to participate in the research program; persistently forge trusting relationships and engage individuals not readily familiar with the research.
  • Use the telephone and follow scripts to reach out to current and potential participants; this requires good oral communication skills to convey the research’s importance.
  • Follow the IRB protocol as outlined by the study.
  • Monitor study developments and define, create, and implement new research procedures based on study needs.
  • Work with clinical and research staff regarding participant engagement and recruitment operations.
  • Support participants in completing informed consent procedures and questionnaires on an iPad/computer.
  • Conduct the physical measurements component of the interview (including height, weight, hip and waist circumference, and automated blood pressure) and biospecimen collection and processing.
  • Enter data related to physical measures, biospecimen samples, and medications.
  • Responsible for other clinic-related research duties such as preparing for the participant visits, setting up and cleaning the exam rooms, entering data, and performing data and equipment quality control checks.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
  • Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Entry level knowledge of research methods.
  • Knowledge of aspects of clinical studies such as screening, interviewing; knowledge of experimental design, data management; oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires excellent communication, organization, presentation and computer/pc skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a project team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
  • Bilingual (Spanish).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with database management systems, specifically RedCap.
  • Experience working with Federal Regulations and IRB’s preferred.
