Job Description
- Agility to work on uneven surfaces and slopes.
- Knowledge of vegetation management including shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices.
- Experience applying herbicides to control weeds and brush.
- Experience in at least one piece of this Category B equipment: asphalt distributors, front end loaders, dump trucks, tractor “A” boom mowers, mulch blowers, sod seeders, tractors with sprayer attachments, brush chippers, conventional pesticide applicators, front end loaders, hyrodseeder, or skid steers.
- Experience operating pesticide applicators, trucks, tractors, and utility vehicles.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow verbal/written instructions as directed by your supervisor.
- Pre-employment drug testing required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe shoes are required.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 360 days of hire.
- In this work you will be exposed to all types of weather conditions.
- This position may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency.
- You must obtain a NC Pesticide Operators License with endorsements in Ornamentals & Turf and Right of Way within 90 days of hire.
- You will be subject to emergency call backs, scheduled night work, and work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 2 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
