Job Description
The Human Resources Research Organization (HumRRO), headquartered in Old Town, Alexandria, VA, is a non-profit leader in applied research, evaluation, and analytics in the arenas of employment, student, and military testing, and professional credentialing and licensing. We work with federal and state government agencies, private sector organizations, and professional associations. This position is located in Monterey, CA, and is eligible to be in-office or hybrid. Employment in our Alexandria, VA, Minneapolis, MN, or Louisville, KY office locations would also be considered. This is a term of project position. The project ends June 26, 2024, but it is likely to be renewed annually.
About the Job:
We seek a full-time Test Editor to join an examination review team for a computer-based, nationally administered assessment. The Test Editor will be part of a four-person team of internal and external editors, including the client, who review test questions for an assessment that covers diverse subject areas. If you have previous assessment editing experience with a strong background in high school level math (algebra and geometry), basic sciences (life, physical, or earth/space), or mechanical systems, and knowledge of best practices for developing high-quality test items, then we encourage you to apply to be a part of our team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Reviews and edits math and/or science multiple-choice test items for subject matter accuracy, writing clarity, grammar and syntax, punctuation, and adherence to test and style specifications using a proprietary item authoring platform.
- Reviews test items for other subject matter, as assigned (e.g., reading comprehension, vocabulary, auto information).
Basic Requirements and Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. in mathematics or the basic sciences OR B.A./B.S. in any field with two years of high school math/science teaching or math/science assessment writing/editing experience.
- Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat. Quick learner of additional software applications, such as an equation editor like LaTeX.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a small team environment and to establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage task completion within time constraints.
- US Citizenship is REQUIRED for this position due to contract specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in test item writing or editing of large-scale educational assessments.
- 2+ years of high school math or science teaching, tutoring, or curriculum development experience.
- 2+ years of copy editing and proofreading experience desirable.
