Job Description:

Join our team! Four Mile Historic Park is seeking a friendly Site Coordinator for full-time work at our 12-acre working farm and historic house museum. This role will take special responsibility for the maintenance and livestock care needs of the 4MHP site. From daily operations and general admission to our thrilling private and Signature Events, you will help make magic at the Park.

The right candidate has experience with maintenance and repairs, livestock, and public-facing roles. They are self-motivated, friendly, and able to problem-solve while exercising excellent customer service skills. Please make note of any event, equine, historic preservation, construction, and/or maintenance experience in your cover letter!

Because our staff is dedicated to providing a top-quality guest experience, all roles include secondary duties with Visitor Services. Weekend, holiday, and evening availability are required to support Four Mile’s mission to be accessible to the public during public and private events, and to ensure the safety of resident livestock and the grounds.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. This is not a remote position; in-person attendance is required. 

Responsibilities

Site Operations Duties:

The primary function of this role will be to enhance the experience of the Park by proactively implementing grounds improvements, maintenance, livestock care, event setup/teardown, and visitor services tasks.

  • Responsible for daily Park operations during open hours including the opening/closing/cleaning of outbuildings.
  • Executes feeding and wellness routines for resident livestock as outlined by the Director of Operations.
  • Actively seeks out maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks.
    • Create a plan and budget for maintenance tasks to be presented to the Director of Operations for purchase and approval.
    • Communicate with leadership about larger projects which require outside contractors.
  • Assists the Director of Operations in maintaining safety standards on-site.
  • Builds knowledge of on-site assets and helps to coordinate and make equipment and furnishings available for rentals and events.
  • Assigns tasks and supervises volunteer/community service volunteers when they are participating in site-specific tasks.

Secondary Duties:

We are a small, passionate team dedicated to providing an excellent experience for Park visitors. To that end, all employees are tasked with taking on responsibility for Visitor Services shifts and event coverage. This position will include coverage of the front desk, as well as taking on support roles during special events, and generally acting as a welcoming, professional resource for visitors.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience (e.g. event operations, site operations, museum, agricultural, farm labor, maintenance, non-profit)
  • 1 year of customer service experience with knowledge of visitor services principles, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to conceptualize, research, estimate budgets and track expenses for small repair and maintenance plans, and to communicate with the Director of Operations about larger projects which require outside contractors
  • Computer literacy (PC: Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, internet, ability to learn internal CRM tools)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong follow-through with a high level of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to articulate the mission of Four Mile Historic Park and its programs and services to the public as well as interpret site policy and procedures for the visitor
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and members of the public; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times, and demonstrate an understanding of protocol and sensitivity to cultural diversity issues
  • Willingness to work a varying schedule; because livestock need care 7 days a week and because we are open to the public on weekends, this schedule is currently set for Thursday-Monday. Signature Events (listed below), which sometimes take place outside normal working hours, may also impact the staff schedule.

Nice to have (not required):

  • Willingness to provide occasional house tours or step in to lend a hand at an educational station. Interested? Mention any relevant experience in your cover letter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to repetitively lift and carry objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds.
  • Comfort with livestock including proficiency with equine handling.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee in this position is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, lift objects repetitively (e.g. helping to stack hay deliveries), move resources on both smooth indoor and uneven outdoor surfaces, use tools, speak for extended periods of time, and to listen.
  • This position often works alone when the Park is not open to guests, and must be able to carry out required functions solo when necessary.
  • Work will occur both in the office, in the museum house, and outside on the Park grounds. While road safety will be taken into consideration, to provide appropriate care for our resident farm animals, outdoor work will take place regardless of weather conditions.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Full-time hours ranging from 32-40 hours per week with evening and weekend work required. The regular non-event schedule for this position is 8:00am-4:30pm Thursday through Monday. The rate of pay is currently set at $22-25 an hour.

Full-Time Benefits:

  • This position is eligible for medical insurance, coverage is effective on the first day of the month following the date of full-time employment.
  • Medical coverage through Kaiser Permanente, Dental through Delta Dental.
  • Participation in the organization’s retirement plan, a Simple IRA, is offered to the full-time employee after they earn $5,000 in a calendar year. This plan has a company match of up to 3% of the annualized salary.
  • 12 paid holidays aligned with the Denver City Holiday schedule.
  • Eligible for approved overtime.
  • Eligible to accrue paid vacation time.
  • Mileage reimbursement for for off-site programs when a personal vehicle is used.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift + half hour unpaid lunch break
  • Standard weekly schedule without events will be Thursday through Monday 8am-4:30pm.
  • Evening shifts required as needed
  • Weekend availability required
  • Occasional holidays as needed to feed animals

Ability to commute/relocate:

Denver, CO 80246: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required). Extreme weather conditions will be considered, but regular attendance during cold/hot/wet conditions is expected. The Park follows the guidance of Denver Public Schools for specific weather event related closures.
