We are looking for a talented Senior Systems Engineer to join our team specializing in Cummins Electronics and Fuel Systems for our Component Business Segment in Columbus, IN.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
• This applied technology position creates electronic tools that are used to create embedded software, or manufacture and service Cummins’ products. People in these positions will have involvement in specification, design, implementation, testing and/or release of tools.
• Investigates electronic tools problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members.
• Obtains input and negotiates with product and software development teams and delivers verified software features, components, builds and support to product teams and end users.
• Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design. Provides independent leadership of smaller business impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team.
• Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
University, or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Post-graduate (Master’s) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience
• Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering / Systems Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Senior or Lead System Engineer role is required.

Job Responsibilities
This position leads Systems team of small team size, performs tasks of understanding customer requirements and systems processes, contributes to requirements and test reviews and act of point of contact between product development engineers and customer teams.
• Leads the software/systems team and ability to lead systems engineering efforts on moderate to complex requirements
• Works with customers to gather requirements and Collaborates for inputs from internal team such as manager, technical lead, developers and cross functional teams
• Manages and documents clear requirements using recommended tools and software required to support the processes
• Analyzes, prioritize and define verification criteria for requirements
• Ensures complete traceability from customer / system requirements and down to software implementation and validation test cases.
• Provides support for investigating requirement gaps, product /feature expected behavior, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents the results
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
