JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTION

Provides support to and maintains multiple SQL Server production and/or non-production databases of significant and/or strategic impact across the enterprise. Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration. Primary responsibility is performing SQL database administration and engineering.

LOCATION: This job is fully remote eligible within the United States. If located in Jacksonville, FL some onsite may be required.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides strategic engineering leadership to drive technology improvements.
  • Takes ownership of projects to ensure successful implementation including Tech-Stack upgrade efforts.
  • Fosters relationship and acts as a technical liaison between the SQL DBA Team and the Lines of Business.
  • Performs backup and recovery on SQL Database Management Systems, configures database parameters and prototype designs against logical data models, and defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements.
  • Optimizes SQL database access and allocates/re-allocates database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost.
  • Provides status reports that detail issues for escalation to management.
  • Performs configuration, scripting, analysis, installation, monitoring, administration and tuning for database management systems.
  • Performs data analysis to provide management with timely and accurate information and predict future requirements
  • Develops, implements and tests database backup and recovery policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains documentation for SQL database policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Performs/schedules routine maintenance on databases to keep them running at peak performance.
  • Monitors SQL database performance, availability, and capacity.
  • Reviews database storage utilization to ensure proper whitespace allocations
  • Reviews and develop trend analysis for incident remediation and prevention
  • Participates in continuous business process redesign to improve internal operations.
  • Interfaces with user and application departments remotely and on-site to assist in the implementation of work requests and provide operational support.
  • Troubleshoots issues and recommends solutions for SQL Server Database.
  • Research and evaluate new RDBMS for possible implementation
  • Serves as a point of escalation when needed for On-Call Rotation team.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

Any Database Certifications a plus.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Expert level knowledge of SQL Server database management systems (2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and/or 2019)
  • Expert level knowledge SQL performance and tuning
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft GEO-Clustering and Always-On Availability Groups in local and geographically dispersed data centers highly desired
  • Knowledge of database encryption such as Always Encrypted, Protegrity, TDE, and TLS
  • Expert level knowledge of PowerShell Scripting and Automation
  • Extensive knowledge of task automation highly desired
  • Expert level knowledge for OS, storage, and network layers for troubleshooting purposes highly desired
  • Experience with Log Shipping and/or Replication desired
  • Thorough SQL database design, management, and analysis skills
  • Ability to monitor and tune databases and instances
  • Ability to maintain and monitor availability, security, and integrity of SQL Server databases
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery operations for SQL Server database management systems
  • Demonstrated experience with successful system and project implementations
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux platforms a plus
  • Knowledge of AWS – RDS SQL a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure RDBMS a plus
  • Knowledge of Cloud SaaS RDBMS a plus
  • Knowledge of Ansible, Tower, and AWX automation a plus
  • Knowledge of OLA Hallengren maintenance plans a plus
  • Ability to adapt to the use of new software tools as they are acquired or adopted within IT
  • Focused on production and customer needs

Database Administrator IV

Expert/lead professional role. Mastery-level technical and business expertise in multiple disciplines/processes. Supports varied, multiple services and multiple enterprise databases of high complexity (complexity defined by database size, technology used, systems feeds and interfaces) with many concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of data. Defines and discerns key aspects of complex and/or significant problems that require analysis and research, and develops a solution within a broad technical and business context of significant or strategic impact across the enterprise. Recognized as an expert internally and often provides strategic direction, guidance and integration of products and services. Works on multiple varied, highly complex projects that require expertise in multiple technical environments and specific business area(s) as a project team member or often as a project lead. May coach and/or mentor more junior technical staff. Typically requires nine (9) or more years of experience working with various database management systems in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment.
