We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our team!

The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of our company’s core chemistry. The candidate combines a strong synthetic chemistry background, understanding of analytical methods and instrument operation, interpretation of analytical data, and responsibility for delivering robust and scalable synthesis workflows.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments involving: organic synthesis, compound characterization, and scale-up of modified nucleotides and fluorescent dye conjugates
  • Documentation of experimental details, structural determination (NMR, MS) of novel compounds, analysis and interpretation of data, and presentation of results
  • Assist in the preparation of patents and publications to increase the company’s intellectual property portfolio
  • Operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment & analytical instruments
  • Collaborate with a wide spectrum of scientists & engineers on joint projects, and support R&D
  • Actively participate in the company’s quality and safety programs, and adhere to policies and procedures to maintain compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ph.D. with 0 – 8 years of industry experience in chemistry or organic chemistry
  • Proven track record in carrying out multi-step organic synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel organic compounds
  • Strong understanding of organic reaction mechanisms, and the ability to optimize reaction conditions based on this knowledge
  • Experience with flash chromatography and analytical methods including MS, TLC, and UV
  • Experience with oxygen/moisture sensitive reactions that require inert, dry, low temperature conditions such as organolithium, organomagnesium, and transition metal catalyzed chemistry
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and people skills are a must, as well as reliability and time management abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute independent and collaborative research projects
  • Strong sense of urgency, can-do attitude, and motivational skills to get the best out of the co-workers.
  • Co-authorship in one or more publications in peer-reviewed scientific journal(s).
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with preparative-LC (reverse phase or ion exchange chromatography) methods are preferred
  • Ability to conduct reactions at both medicinal chemistry scale (~50 mg) and at low process scale (~200 g) is preferred
  • Proficient with SciFinder, Chemdraw, Mnova, and/or other chemistry-related software is preferred
  • Experience in managing external CROs and the sourcing of related raw materials and intermediates is preferred
