Full-Time Senior Director, Federal Affairs

Job Description

As the Senior Director of Federal Affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing our federal advocacy efforts. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, you will be responsible for overseeing staff, developing and implementing federal strategies, and fostering key relationships to advance our organization’s goals on a national scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Oversee and provide leadership to the federal affairs team
    • Manage and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
  • Federal Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive federal affairs strategies aligned with organizational goals
    • Stay abreast of legislative and policy developments to shape effective advocacy initiatives
  • Relationship Building:
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, federal agencies, and partner organizations
    • Represent the organization in various forums and build a strong presence on Capitol Hill
  • Policy Advocacy:
    • Lead efforts to influence federal policies through strategic advocacy campaigns
    • Collaborate with internal teams to align federal initiatives with broader organizational strategies, including state and local policy campaigns
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the communications and digital teams to develop and implement effective messaging and public affairs strategies for federal advocacy efforts
    • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to implement comprehensive campaigns that utilize organizations resources and strategies, and ensure cohesive and coordinated efforts
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for federal affairs based on organizational goals and values
    • Assess emerging issues and recommend proactive strategies to address challenges and opportunities

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience on Capitol Hill in Federal legislative advocacy, campaign management, government affairs or related fields
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams to achieve strategic organizational goals and managing personnel to help team member achieve personal and professional goals
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills
  • Proven experience building and maintaining relationships with federal lawmakers and their staff
  • Experience in building and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders and partners
  • Proven ability to manage complex project, legislative campaigns, and initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of advocacy strategies and best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in managing through a DEI lens and ability to create equitable and inclusive teams

The annual salary range for this position is $180,000 based on experience. Everytown offers a generous benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision benefits, PTO, 401K Match, Education Assistance and more.
