Full-Time Senior Accountant

Job Description

The Role

At Span, we are building products that enable the rapid adoption of renewable energy like home solar, batteries, and electric vehicles. The Span Smart Panel replaces the standard electrical panel to become the center for connected power in the home, providing revolutionary insights and home energy controls through the Span mobile app.

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support our growing Finance and Accounting teams. In this role you will work with leadership and a cross-functional team. You are a data-driven and detail-oriented collaborator who can connect the numbers to Span’s core strategic & financial goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support in the preparation of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement
  • Assist with the monthly close process; prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support the team with accounting for accruals and prepaid expenses
  • Manage accounts receivable (AR) activities such as invoicing customers, following up on aged AR, and making collection calls
  • Manage accounts payable (AP) activities such as reviewing vendor invoices and processing payments
  • Communicate and collaborate frequently with cross-functional teams (e.g. supply chain, engineering, etc.) to ensure proper 3-way matching related to AP
  • Support payroll processing and employee expense reimbursement
  • Identify and implement process & technology changes to improve efficiency
  • Escalate issues to management in timely manner

Required Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in audit or accounting
  • Degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Mastery of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Excellent Excel skills (mastery of vlookups, pivot tables, index/match functions)
  • Excellent data literacy, comfortable with metrics, data analysis, and data input
  • Experience with organizing data and creating data visualizations (e.g. charts, graphs, etc.)
  • Process-oriented and operational problem-solver who can iterate quickly to solutions
  • Desire to work in a start-up environment with changing priorities
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of deliverables and deadlines
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work cross-functionally and be a team player

Bonus Qualifications

  • Big 4 accounting firm experience
  • Active CPA is a plus
  • Experience writing technical accounting memos (e.g. ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 824)
  • Experience calculating stock-based compensation expense
  • Experience with book-to-tax reconciliation
  • Familiarity with Quickbooks
  • Experience with web-based tools like Bill.com, Expensify, Airtable and Hubspot
  • Comfort working with integration tools like Zapier or Integromat
  • Experience with finance transformation
