Full-Time Roadway Design Engineer III

Job Description
- Develop and maintain our Roadway Design Unit Open Roads Designer (ORD) workspace standards, including the creation of line styles, templates, cells, feature definitions, etc.
- Coordinate with other NCDOT technical teams, our CADD Integration Team, and the NC Department of Information Technology to ensure a holistic approach to ORD implementation.
- Develop training materials, including manuals, articles, job aids, flashcards, and videos related to roadway design ORD modeling and plan production and publish documents to our Roadway Design Unit website and/or our ORD Support Portal.
- Coordinate activities of consultants and junior engineers in training material development.
- Prepare labor estimates, develop, and monitor schedules for deliverables, review deliverables, and test procedures.
- Develop and conduct ORD-related presentations and training workshops for users in physical or online classrooms.
- Provide user support to NCDOT staff and private engineering firms by troubleshooting issues and responding to inquiries related to usage of MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeling, OpenRoads Technology (ORD), and other software platforms used in the production of roadway design plans and 3D models.
- Provide support to our Roadway Design team by participating in initiatives, groups, and meetings in support of Digital Delivery, workflow development and other business processes.
- Assist in training junior engineers.
- Experience producing engineered models, plans and construction estimates for transportation infrastructure projects in compliance with AASHTO guidelines, NCDOT Standards and specifications, and NCDOT, state, and municipal policies and procedures.
- Computer experience using Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer software, ORD workspaces, or Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Demonstrated ability preparing technical training documentation and presentations, and communicating information in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Experience training junior engineers and/or Transportation Engineering Associates.
- Experience providing timely customer service and working cooperatively with other teams, divisions, and departments to troubleshoot issues and generate effective solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
