Job Description
Salary – £36,245 to £38,463 Depending on experience (prorated for part time working)
Permanent and Part Time, 22.2 hours per week, (must include Fridays)
Hybrid working (50/50)
Preferred Location: Wallingford (Alternative Locations: can be based at Lancaster, Edinburgh or Bangor)

The Research Contracts Team is a friendly and professional team responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of legal agreements related to the outstanding research we do. We support our science by ensuring the terms and conditions are in line with policy. Securing appropriate publication rights and access to results for further research, ensuring our charitable objectives can be realised.

Your main responsibilities will include:
- Drafting and finalising research contracts and other agreements in a timely manner, namely NDAs, MTAs, Collaboration Agreements using the Brunswick, Lambert templates, contract amendments and subcontracts
- Supporting colleagues in the Research Contracts Team with their portfolio, and the Funding Assurance Officer on due diligence checks
- Providing support regarding specific funder procurement processes, such as framework agreements and related subcontracts
- Identifying, communicating, and mitigating contractual risks in line with policy
- Providing specialist support on all aspects of contracts and contracts management (i.e., contractual issues, intellectual property, confidentiality, liability, and publication), to a range of stakeholders
- Ensuring project contracts enable future use of project results, for future scientific research and non-commercial purposes
- Managing the contracts process, with consideration of specific project requirements and internal policy
For the role of Research Contracts Advisor we’re looking for somebody who has:
- A good degree in an appropriate subject plus demonstrable legal skills and knowledge or relevant experience
- The ability to draft contracts and negotiate on a range of agreement types
- Demonstrable ability to work within set processes and to contribute to process improvement
- Knowledge of intellectual property issues and ability to provide clear advice on copyright and other areas of IPR
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail with the proven ability to produce high quality outputs and results, to tight deadlines
- Experience within a research contracts environment would be an advantage.
