Job Description

The UNC Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) is seeking a full-time Public Health Communications Specialist to manage our internal & external communications activities. This person will join a diverse interdisciplinary group of professionals who are collectively committed to the prevention of injury, violence, & overdose. Our group works in diverse topics, including traumatic brain injury, gender-based violence, overdose prevention, child maltreatment, & transportation safety. Our work strengthens communities through research, training, & outreach activities.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating effective public health messaging through designing, tailoring, & disseminating communications products to internal & external audiences. They will have a proven ability to manage multiple communications channels, build & maintain relationships with a wide variety of collaborators, & stay on top of multiple concurrent projects. They will apply an equity lens to all aspects of their work with attention to promoting impactful & accessible communications. They will be able to handle both the day-to-day tasks required for maintaining the communication needs of a research center & thinking strategically about how to improve systems of communication among Center affiliates & with external partners.

What You’ll Do
* Build & sustain relationships with IPRC-affiliated staff, faculty, & students in order to help them stay up to date on research & capacity-building projects within the Center
* Disseminate newsworthy stories, research findings, intellectual products, updates on ongoing research, outreach, & training activities to a variety of internal & external audiences
* Develop & maintain communication channels internal to IPRC to promote connection, collaboration, & information sharing among faculty, staff, & students
* Manage, update, & enhance various IPRC communication channels, including social media accounts, the IPRC website, Sendinblue, & IPRC-supported websites
* Create & support dissemination of a variety of communication materials for use by IPRC-affiliated projects, including fact sheets, infographics, short videos, & PowerPoint presentations to assist researchers & practitioners in translating scientific knowledge into effective injury & violence prevention programs, policy, & practice

You know how to: build & maintain WordPress websites, can manage & maximize engagement on a variety of social media platforms (primarily Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn) & can develop engaging visual products (infographics, fact sheets, flyers, etc.) utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva.

Salary range: $54,000-$62,000
