Full-Time PROGRAMS ASSISTANT

Job Description

ABOUT THE ACADEMY

Founded in 1825, the National Academy of Design promotes art and architecture in America. As the leading honorary society for visual artists and architects in the United States, we advocate for the arts as a tool for education, celebrate the role of artists and architects in public life, and serve as a catalyst for cultural conversations that propel society forward.

As it looks ahead to its 200th anniversary in 2025, the National Academy of Design is at an especially exciting moment of reinvention and possibility. Following the sale of its buildings on New York’s Museum Mile, and the subsequent creation of a board-restricted endowment, the National Academy is refocusing on the artists and architects who are at the core of its mission and developing a vibrant schedule of exhibitions and programs that builds on the Academy’s extraordinary history to explore critical issues in contemporary art, architecture, and culture.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The National Academy of Design seeks an energetic, creative, and curious Programs Assistant to join its small, experienced team during an exciting transitional time. The Programs Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Director of Programs to research, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programming that redefines the Academy’s nearly two-hundred-year-old approach to instruction and education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Director of Programs with the production of visual art and architecture educational offerings for both National Academicians and external audiences; for example, digital programs and podcasts, lectures and dialogues, workshops and performances, convenings and symposia.
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding programmatic events.
  • Research and aggregate ideas for the improvement to programmatic offerings, including understanding new technologies in virtual programming, compiling performance metrics, and best practices for program accessibility.
  • Keep complete and organized files of communications with National Academicians, program materials, program data, and other important documents.
  • Assist the Director of Program with brainstorming ideas for the design and implementation of social media campaigns for education.
  • Assist with the production of interpretive materials accompanying programs, both in-print and digital forms.
  • Coordinate and schedule the travel needs of Academicians and other program participants.
  • Assist the Director of Programs with all administrative aspects of the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in adult education, nonprofit programming, arts and cultural organizations, or other related experience.
  • Exceptional project-management and event coordination skills.
  • A genuine interest in public programming, the arts, and lifelong learning research.
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving department and organization.
  • Discretion, tact, and a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is $50,000 annually and comes with an excellent competitive benefits package.
