Full-Time Program Specialist 2 – Medical Assisting Department

Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, temporary project classified Program Specialist 2 to support the Medical Assistant department. The Program Specialist 2 is the single-point of contact for our students. This position is a grant-funded position with an expected duration through June 30, 2025. This position is 100% in-person and will be located in the Clark building on the Washington State University Vancouver campus. The successful candidate will join a cohesive team helping to fulfill the needs of a growing department.

The Program Specialist 2 will primarily engage in student recruitment. They will coordinate and collaborate with other college departments within Student Affairs (recruiting, admissions, advising, career services). This position is responsible for managing communications with department faculty, staff and administrators.

Primary responsibilities in the areas of:

  • Student recruitment: Develop and implement a recruiting strategy that will include all activities for potential student lead generation, screening and placement into the medical assistant (allied health) programs.
  • Student retention: Develop and implement a retention strategy that will include alt activities for regular student engagement, and potential early student intervention and direction to support services, and as a liaison between faculty, staff, and administrators to coordinate support efforts for students in need.

Position Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Generate, track and follow-up on potential student leads.
  • Assist students with navigating the college system and help with removing barriers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local high schools, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Attend recruiting events such as school visits and career fairs, on-campus programs and tours, as well as other events such as Prof-Tech Day, Veterans Affairs events, etc.
  • Work with department faculty and associated staff and administrators and implement an annual recruitment plan for the medical assistant (allied health) programs.
  • Collaborate with key campus stakeholders including advising, financial aid, and enrollment services to ensure effective student matriculation.
  • Assist in retention of current students.
  • Partner with Communications and Marketing to create promotional materials and maintain website information related to the programs.
  • Work to achieve and support diversity objectives as established by the college.
  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values established by the college, furthering goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.
  • Perform related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Some college coursework
  • Demonstrated work experience in at least one (1) of the three (3) areas listed below:
    • Commissioned sales experience or equivalent related experience in recruiting.
    • Counseling experience or equivalent experience directing people one-on-one towards established goals.
    • Customer service experience or equivalent experience working directly with customers to assist them and resolve issues.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook as well as experience data mining and using various internet tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse groups and individuals; strong public speaking skills to large and small groups.
  • Ability to travel to various recruiting sites, occasional long distances (up to one hour) required.

  • Ability to effectively coordinate activities, services, and schedules to ensure smooth and efficient operation of work with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and accomplish duties with limited supervision in a timely manner; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.

Supplemental Information

SALARY/BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $3,537-$4,724/month | Step A-M (commensurate with qualifications and experience) | Range: 42 | Code: 107I |Successful candidates typically start at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases. Clark College offers an exceptional benefits package that includes vacation/sick leave; medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; retirement; and tuition waiver.
