Friends of Ruby is a registered charity dedicated to the progressive well-being of LGBTQI2S youth through social services and housing.

Friends of Ruby
Friends of Ruby was founded by Egale Canada in 2014 to meet the needs of LGBTQI2S youth. It is currently an independent charity that provides comprehensive and progressive mental health and well-being supports to LGBTQI2S youth, aged 16-29.
Friends of Ruby operates a Youth Centre and will soon open the Friends of Ruby Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home will provide transitional and emergency housing, as well as mental health and wellness support services.
To date, the organization has supported more than 900 youth and prevented 470 mental health crises and visits to hospital emergency rooms, saving nearly $300,000 in health care costs.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Program & Evaluation Lead structures and manages all projects related to gathering, analyzing, summarizing and sharing internal and external information relevant to Friends of Ruby, including but not limited to impact measurement, stakeholder engagement and consultation, and knowledge mobilization and dissemination.
The position plays an integral role in connecting with internal and external stakeholders, gaining insights through consultations and evaluation, and reporting to the leadership team to support effective decision making, stakeholder engagement, and program development in connection with Friends of Ruby’s strategic goals and youth needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Structure and manages all projects related to gathering, analyzing, summarizing and sharing information/data at Friends of Ruby, including but not limited to impact measurement, stakeholder engagement and consultation, and knowledge mobilization and dissemination projects.
Impact measurement & evaluation
- Structure, plan and implement impact measurement and evaluation strategies for Friends of Ruby’s programs and services, including the development of a theory of change, indicators, and logic models, where appropriate.
- Structure and implement process, outcome and participatory evaluations including identifying appropriate data collection measures, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting on results to respond to specific internal and external needs.
- Ensure that participants and service statistics/data is collected on a regular basis and through appropriate methods and tools.
- Monitor and track critical data, extract insights and create recommendations to assist in program planning and quality improvement with staff, ensuring this information is communicated in a timely manner.
- Build internal capacity for evaluation by leading and supporting staff to manage evaluation tasks related to their projects and programs, creating evaluation toolkits and resources, and facilitating training where needed.
Business Analysis & Strategy
- Support decision making by providing the leadership team with insights related to the LGBTQI2S Youth Wellbeing sector (including social services and housing) from existing research, data sets, consultations with stakeholders, participation in relevant tables and networks, and others.
- Analyses and identifies trends and opportunities in LGBTQI2S youth well-being that can inform the development of new or the revision of existing strategies, programs and services.
- Bring an evidence-informed approach to Friends of Ruby and support the development and/or improvement of initiatives by conducting relevant research or using available data to inform proposals, presentations, and other documents for program approval and promotion.
- Establish processes and Business Intelligence tools required to aggregate, transform, analyze, and generate reports required to support strategic and operational decisions that enhance Friends of Ruby’s programs and services.
- Prepare regular and user-friendly reports, fact sheets, briefing notes, presentations and other material for the leadership team.
- Support the leadership team with content for proposals, reports and other documents as needed.
Program Development & Mobilization
- Engage with stakeholders (e.g. youth and community organizations) and maintain collaborative relationships to facilitate the implementation of programs and collection of data related to programs, services and partnerships.
- Structure, implement and management consultations and other forms of stakeholder engagement to inform the development of programs and services, and to facilitate collaborations and partnerships.
- Engage with leadership and team members to identify Friends of Ruby’s expertise and best practices, and structure ways in which to share these with relevant stakeholders (e.g. community organizations, networks, government agencies)
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

- Has worked within the LGBTQI2S youth sector and/or shows understanding and/or lived experience of the challenges faced by the LGBTQI2S population
- Demonstrates diversity and cultural competence, including an understanding of their social location, the impact of oppression, and the social determinants of health.
Key Competencies
- 3-5 years of experience in impact measurement, evaluation, business analytics and/or research for evidence-based program development in the not-for-profit sector.
- Educational background in Business, Non-Profit Management, Public Health/Administration, Social Sciences, Community Development is an asset.
- Professional and/or personal experience within the LGBTQI2S youth well-being sector is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proven ability to communicate with different audiences and to synthesize and interpret complex data for the purposes of producing reports and other materials.
- Strong multi-tasking, organization and time-management skills to prioritize activities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge/Experience of a wide range of evaluation approaches (e.g. participatory action research, developmental evaluation) and ethical practices (e.g. consent processes, personal health information data storage, confidentiality requirements) commonly used in the community sector.
- Demonstrated strong computer competency using Microsoft Office programs, data management and business intelligence tools, internet and public databases; and an ability to learn and use new software systems.
- Competency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo) and/or case management software (e.g. Apricot) is an asset.

- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check Program
- Must be qualified to legally work in Canada
- Ability to both work from home and at our office located in Downtown Toronto
- Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed
