ABOUT THE ROLE

The Operations Product Manager sits at the epicenter of operational excellence, focused on process, feature, and system improvements that will drive efficiency and reduce costs while ensuring users have the right features at the right time. Interested applicants should have a driving ambition to improve warehouse operations through technology. This role will report to the Senior Product Manager for Internal Tools and collaborate heavily with the warehouse & customer service teams.

The Operations Product Manager will work together with Product Management and Operations teams to identify challenges and opportunities, prioritize them on the product roadmap, and facilitate multi-directional communication to see changes through to completion. The Product Manager will set the product strategy for software development initiatives that support Outbound, Transportation, and Customer Service operations for internal systems. In this role, they will lead the Operations technology product team and work alongside a Scrum Master, Product Analyst, and Developers, with UX and QA support.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated history in finding innovative technology-based solutions to improve processes
  • Demonstrated success in identifying business drivers, setting ambitious goals, and measuring success through relevant metrics
  • Demonstrated success in utilizing data to evaluate feature success and drive decision-making
  • Experience working with quantitative data to derive insights; knowledge of SQL or similar tool to run and analyze basic queries
  • Experience analyzing and documenting workflows and processes
  • 3+ years of leading a successful team
  • 5+ years working in logistics, 3PL, warehouse, customer service, or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated mastery working within an Agile framework and SCRUM implementation, with JIRA or similar tool to manage team performance
  • Motivation to translate complex business, operational, and technology needs among colleagues; to listen, internalize, and summarize technology changes in order to develop and share product strategy to non-tech stakeholders

RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Strategist

  • Maintain the product roadmap – a high-level planning document that conveys the complexity and urgency of initiatives and features
  • Analyze and document critical business intelligence about Ops systems including internal user data, customer feedback, and product metrics to inform product strategy
  • Research critical business intelligence including trends among competitors and technology-based tools available in the market
  • Analyze feedback, ideas, and research to build the Ops roadmap
  • Continually weigh the competing objectives for Ops Product needs against company resources, other products, and requests from various stakeholders
  • Build accurate ROI cases for new initiatives and features, including build vs. buy analysis

Product Champion

  • Internal Stakeholders
    • Promote fairness, evaluate all ideas carefully, and facilitate peer learning in service to building the Ops roadmap
    • Support and educate stakeholders on how to request, track, and prioritize work
    • Conduct Current State/Future State/Target Operating Model workshops with relevant stakeholders to analyze, document, and plan upcoming work
    • Diplomatically manage expectations of stakeholders – to say Now, Later, or Someday in a clear-eyed, data-driven manner; remain open with stakeholders about why and how you are making decisions
    • Ensure relevant Uncommon Goods teams receive adequate and thorough training for new features
    • Improve transparency by radiating information between and among all stakeholders
  • Team Management
    • Oversee the flow of requests, code development, and low risk code releases by providing team vision and leadership
    • Constantly update and groom the backlog to provide prioritization for the Scrum team sprint over sprint; guide team progress through close collaboration
    • Work closely with the Product Management team to represent the Ops product perspective in resource allocation and other critical decisions
    • Guide the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to drive operational improvement
    • Ability to use influence to set a high standard for and drive the development of high quality code on a self-managing team
